🦌BUCK TALES🦌 #throwbackthursday
My first buck-Was taken away 😯
November 29, 1997- Youth Hunt 13y.o.
My Dad and I got in early that morning at a prescouted location on a friends farm. We were hunting on the ground behind a huge oak with an open area in the middle of the woods which had recently been timbered.
Not long after first light I saw movement out of the corner of my eye from behind a large timber pile. I nudged my dad and said, "Hey there's a buck"!!! As the buck came out from behind the brush he walked into the opening and stood perfectly broadside at 50 yards.
My dad said, "Are your ready on three" we both counted 1..2..3..💥 and he dropped. Before we could even enjoy the excitement of what had just happened, an man came barreling through the woods towards us yelling and cursing, "You shot my deer, that's my fn buck, your trespassing"! And multiple other expletives... I of course was speechless, and my dad was trying to make the best of the situation as we watched the guy drag the buck I had just shot away. We walked back to the farmhouse and my dad spoke with the landowner who had heard the shot.
After explaining to him where we were and what happened we drove over with him and tried to reason with the man to give the buck back to no avail. I left with my dad feeling devastated.
Later that night we received a phone call on our house phone. It was the man that had taken the buck, he was very apologetic and explained to my dad where the deer had been checked in, and that we could go there to pick it up.
Arrangements were made to have it mounted, but I never had the chance to get original photos with my first buck. In the end we learned that the neighboring landowner was mad that the buck had been shot because he had been watching it and wanted it for himself.Definitely a crazy experience, and one that has kinda stuck with me forever lol
