You only make progesterone if you ovulate! Yes, the adrenal glands do produce a small amount, but you need ovulation in order to benefit from all the wonderful effects such as reducing PMS, insomnia and anxiety in the week before the cycle! 😯 . When the egg is released from the ovary, it leaves behind a small structure known as the corpus luteum (aka yellow body🔸) which produces progesterone for us until a) we fall pregnant 🤰🏻 and the placenta eventually takes over, or b) we don’t fall pregnant, the corpus luteum breaks down and hormones drop, resulting in a period! 👍🏼 . Low progesterone levels are SO common these days for many reasons including stress (this is a biggie!), nutrient deficiencies and lifestyle factors 👎🏼 Often times, all of the symptoms of ‘oestrogen dominance’ (breast tenderness, heavy periods, water retention) are due to low progesterone levels, not necessarily high oestrogen! 😯 . I just shared a ton of info about progesterone on my IG stories (yes I’ve saved them in case you don’t catch them in time 👌🏻) Find out other common symptoms of deficiency and what you can do to boost your levels, (therefore improving your fertility) by giving it a watch ☺️ . For the base, I used @bobsredmill gluten free rolled oats (not an #ad just love em!), half a 🍌, 2 medjool dates (chopped), 1 tbsp of cinnamon & huge spoonful of vanilla paste. First meal of my day consumed at 3pm after 2hrs tennis and 1.5hrs interval/circuit training 😮. I’ve recently started trying intermittent fasting and training on an empty stomach. Ngl for me personally my mind and body feel so much better for it and makes my meals taste even better 😋. RECIPE BELOW👇 Sugar awareness week continues so I made another recipe using @natvianaturalsweetener - Rocky Road🤤 Ingredients: 🍫 200g dark chocolate 🍫 1 cup sugar free marshmalllows, chopped 🍫 1/4 cup unsalted peanuts 🍫 3 digestive biscuits, broken into pieces 🍫 1 tbsp Natvia 🍫 1 tbsp coconut oil Method: Melt the chocolate and coconut oil over a very low heat, stirring continuously. Take off the heat and mix in the Natvia, marshmallows, peanuts and biscuits. Pour into a lined tray and chill in the freezer for 2 hours. Cut into squares and store in the fridge.

Zucchini pizza boats - 1/2 zucchini, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 tbsp mixed cheese, 2 cherry tomatoes. . Rice cake pizza - 1 rice cake, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 basil leaves, 2 tbsp mozzarella cheese. . Pita pizza - 1 medium pita, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 tbsp mozzarella cheese, 2 basil leaves + 3 cherry tomatoes. . Pizza pizza - Ordered from the doughroom in Culver City haha Because sometimes you can treat yo self to a damn real pizza. . How to cook the veggie pizzas: 1 - Preheat oven to 350F. 2 - Scoop out the inside of the mushroom, bell pepper or zucchini boat (you can cook the bell pepper or zucchini in oven before adding toppings or add toppings then cook if you don’t need it well done. Mushroom you can add the toppings right away & cook)  3 - Add 1/4 cup marinara, toppings & cheese 4 - Bake in oven for about 10 minutes then enjoy! . So I am sharing a recipe for you all.....I am hoping you all enjoy it. Its to embrace a movement of stop labeling how you eat. I am kinda tired of the whole diet trends of keto, paleo, vegan, fasting, cleansing, bullet proof etc. Why do we need to label how we eat? I sometime eat meat, sometimes I don’t. I avoid certain foods because well they give me grief. I eat for pleasure and nourishment. I don’t need to label it. One thing for sure is listen to how your tummy and body feels with how you eat. If you are losing hair, your nails are splitting or your having digestive distress all because you are following a so called ‘diet’ Gosh is it worth it. Go with your gut so to speak. It always knows. Eat for you! You do not need to label it.... Our body’s nutrition needs change with age, hormones, fitness needs, adrenal health, digestive issues and seasonally. I am not one to push a certain way of eating with my clients. In fact I have discouraged a diet trend at times when they think its what that need or heard about via social media but in fact would actually do them harm and wouldn’t help them heal. Stuffed sweet potatoes are the ultimate ‘throw together’ meal. As many of you know, California is on fire. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I’m not gonna lie, it’s scary. Although I live pretty far from all the fire activity, it still is extremely smokey outside. The air quality is deemed to be unhealthy and everyone is advised to wear a mask when going outside. A few nights ago, fire trucks sirens were going off and I couldn’t help but think “What if my city is on fire now?”. I am so grateful that it hasn’t hit where I live, but I feel so bad for all the lives and belongings lost. I know this sounds all hippyish, but I feel as if Mother Nature is angry because of all the damage we have induced. We need to take action and start being responsible for our actions. OKAY FINALLY HERE’S THE RECIPE FOR MY FAVORITE CHEESECAKE EVER🤩 . I hope you guys are having an amazing Friday🤗 I have some castings to go to today and then my agency is having a party, so I’m super excited to see a bunch of my model friends that I don’t get to see often☺️ . If you’re looking for a fun & easy treat, here’s how to make this vegan cheesecake😊 . RAW VEGAN CHEESECAKE: Crust: 1 cup soaked pitted dates 1 cup almonds 1/4 cup coconut shreds Filling: 2 cups soaked cashews 1 cup agave (or another sweetener) 1 can coconut milk (refrigerate overnight, and only use the thick solid part that forms at the top) 1 lemon 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup blueberries (optional) For the crust, blend all of your ingredients in a high speed blender. Then line the bottom of the cake mold with it. For the filling, blend all of the ingredients in a high speed blender and pour over the crust. Place in the freezer for at least five hours. . It was the perfect evening for hot soup! The minestrone came out well...although I think I’m doing something wrong on the slow cooker setting with instapot. Veggies weren’t as soft as I’d expect. Breakfast buddha bowl. 10/10 will NOT be making again 😂 VeganEgg was a bit of a let-down for this egg enthusiast. It def had the smell and fluffiness of real eggs, but I couldn’t get down with the gelatinous texture and weird aftertaste. I really tried to give VeganEgg an assist with “butter”, a sprinkle of garlic powder, and a squirt of sriracha, too. But no. I was not egg-cited about the result. Just keeping it 💯 Thankfully, I didn’t put all my eggs in one basket for breakfast and bought a thing of soyrizo. I’m sure VeganEgg will work great in that. It tasted better when I mixed the buddha bowl up as opposed to eating whole forkfuls of “egg” by itself. All the other stuff in the bowl was great, tho (roasted cauliflower, broccoli, carrots and sweet potato. Homemade BBQ kale chips and crispy ranch chickpeas. Radishes and pea shoots). Maybe I should stop being a baby and give scrambled tofu a try. The idea of it weirds me out as an egg person (I ate eggs every day 😢), but who knows, I may like it. In the meantime, I’m still on the lookout for savory breakfast options. As a dietitian I’m always asked what to eat before a workout - and this right here is a winner (didn’t eat the entire thing before or i would have 🤮 mid workout). SELENIUM ✨ This mineral is very important for thyroid health. It acts as an antioxidant to protect the thyroid gland from damage and aids in the conversion of T4 to active T3. Without adequate conversion, serum levels of T3 may be low which can lead to symptoms of hypothyroidism such as weight gain, fatigue, low mood, brain fog, dry skin, constipation, heavy menses, feeling cold, hair loss and difficulty maintaining pregnancy. Every cell in the body requires thyroid hormone, and therefore a deficiency can lead to a number of symptoms. . Selenium deficiency has been associated with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, which is a type of autoimmune hypothyroidism. In this condition, anti-TPO or anti-TG antibodies attack the thyroid gland. Selenium has been shown to reduce anti-TPO antibodies, and therefore can lead to improvements in thyroid function. . Selenium has also been shown to improve insulin sensitivity, support sperm health and is often depleted with the use of birth control pills. Brazil nuts are a great food source of selenium (around 68-91mcg per nut), and it is often recommended to consume 1-2 nuts per day. However if you have a thyroid condition, supplementation is likely a better option as the dosage is more consistent, and there are other vitamins and minerals that are also supportive of thyroid health. Talk to your doctor before starting any supplements, as selenium in high doses can be harmful.

I ask my clients to keep a log of what you eat before the initial consultation so I get an idea of what you eat on a normal day. . 📒 Sometimes it’s helpful for clients to log what they eat throughout the coaching process as well. For example a client I’m working with now was certain he was getting 5 a day, and eating enough protein (these were two of his nutrition goals), but when we looked at a week’s worth of food we saw there was space to make improvements. . 📒 Diet diaries can help with weight loss, better nutrition, food intolerance and healthy habits, read more about it on my blog. 📒 I don’t want people to become obsessed with recording their food intake, we should eat for energy and also enjoyment! Home-made palestinian maftoul (couscous) cooked with chicken  and served with spicy tomato sauce and squash.. المفتول الفلسطيني . This Cold weather comfort food  is a traditional staple food in Palestine, typically made and served in occasions and holidays. Although maftoul is considered as a special type of couscous but its made from different ingredients and it also has a different shape.  Maftoul is an Arabic word  means to roll or to twist, which is exactly describing the used method to make maftoul by hand rolling bulgur  with wheat flour. The taste is absolutely exquisite . Making Maftoul was the only thing  that I didn't learn from my mother but thanks to my mother in law for providing us with our yearly need of it . Usually she makes it then steam it once and after that dry it by spreading the grains on clean cloth in a closed room . When I bring it home I place it in the freezer. Cooking dried  maftoul is extremely easy . Toast the maftoul along with a finely chopped onion in olive oil -Add the  broth (chicken or meat), on a ratio of 2 parts broth to one part maftoul, for about 15 minutes. -Season with cumin ,black pepper, some salt and allspice. At the time of serving top the maftoul with yakhni made of onion wings and chickpeas cooked in broth with adding cumin. What to top maftoul with is really different from city to city and village to village... Us we add just cooked onion with chickpeas stew. Others add vegetables to the onion chickpeas stew and others add tomato juice or paste with a hint of chili flakes.
