Self care comes in many forms and I like to use a holistic approach to ensure each aspect of my life – physical, mental, emotional, energetic, spiritual - is supported in terms of good health and wellbeing. Each aspect is of course inter connected - simply going for a walk in nature is great for my physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, all which raise my energy levels and leave me feeling connected with a far greater power than myself which I take to mean spirituality. I find it also makes sense in our time strapped lives to meet the needs of all five realms in one hit wherever possible!
I had a fabulous opportunity to cover all bases this week at a Mindful Nutrition Workshop with the delightful Julie Silver @VitalityFairy
, and I have realised that healthy nutrition is one of the most fundamental requirements of good self care, and one that I have neglected, ignored, denied and undervalued in the past.
How we care for ourselves in the present can often reflect the care we received as an infant and child and if that was lacking in some way, it may show up in how we do this for ourselves now. With awareness, knowledge, commitment and practice however, one of the ways we can address any sense of lack is to learn to nourish and nurture ourselves fully and truly, with life affirming, healthy foods.
I am learning that the right foods enable me to feel physically well, mentally clear (no brain fog yay!), emotionally balanced, energised and more in tune with and connected to myself.
I try to fill my cup and feed myself first therefore, so I am brimming with vitality and potential to go forth as the best version of myself that I can be in order to serve well!
