The Kalahari sun beats down on the skull of a meerkat, but it is not bleached, as might be expected. This is because, sadly, this meerkat died alone and in hiding, from the venom of a puff adder bite. The skeleton was only uncovered months later by a young meerkat investigating a hollow log. Meerkats are extremely resistant to bites from venomous animals, and indeed, stings from scorpion species such as Parabuthids, which would floor a human weighing a hundred times their size, seem to barely faze them. I have seen meerkats, bitten in the face by puff adders, who lost half the flesh on their heads, and still survived. There is, however, only so much they can take, as this sad reminder shows us. . . . #thephotosociey #wildplanet #natgeo #africanamazing #africageo #africageophoto #wildlifeonearth #wildlifeplanet #igscglobal #wildlife #wildlifephotography #exclusive_wildlife #wildlifeaddicts #wildlife_collective #awesomewildlife #premierwildlife #animalelite #africa_nature #wildgeography #about_animalslife #animals_planet #wildglobe #earthfocus #wildlives #destination_wild #mytaleinnature #meerkat #skull #kalahari
The Nepal government announced the total number of wild tigers in the country had reached 235, nearly double of what it was in 2009. This means Nepal will be the first country to attain the TX2 target of doubling its wild tiger population adopted at the St Petersburg Tiger Summit in 2010. Nepal’s tiger conservation program is being helped in Bardia National Park by the Leonardo DiCaptrio Foundation. Who is also chairman of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) US. Said DiCaprio: “Nepal has been a leader in efforts to double tigers within its own borders and serves as a model for conservation for all of Asia and the world.  This significant increase in Nepal’s tiger population is proof that when we work together, we can save the planet’s wildlife – even species facing extinction.” https://www.nepalitimes.com/latest/nepal-tigers-now-number-235/ #ShizzysWildcatRescue #ShizzysWildcatRescueNC #BigCatsOfInstagram #Tiger #Lion #WildLifePlanet #IndianWildlifeOfficial #Jaguar #Leopard #Sanctuary #CatsOfInstagram #WildGeography #Wildlife #NatGeo #NatGeoWild #AnimalPlanet #Discovery #IPromiseWeWillGetThere #WWF

Standing open arms under heaven's blessings The Columbia gorge is one of the most scenic drives I have ever taken in the US - with towering waterfalls lining the stretch every few miles, each with their own unique character. Last year, a careless accident lit the forests in the region on fire, burning down the trees and requiring evacuation of families there. Thankfully, nature is resilient, and a fire doesn't mean the end but a chance for new life.
