... Where does one begin when talking about this iconic producer? Let’s start with how Domaine De L’ecu gained their iconic reputation. Guy Bossard was one of the early pioneers of organic viticulture over 40 years ago, before it was fashionable. Over 20 years ago, he converted the domaine to biodynamic, proving that delicious, age-able, muscadet could be made with a very hands off approach. Bossard didn’t have any heirs, so Frederik Niger took over the estate, but keeping Bossard on as a consultant to preserve the integrity of the domaine. Fermenting with indigenous yeasts, no pumping or racking, a focus on the energy transferred between the wine and the vessel, working with the individual soils, and hand harvesting, are just some of the many steps to ensure a true expression of terroir. The quality and happiness I get from this wine is unparalleled to any other domaine in the western Loire valley I’ve encountered. I highly recommend finding this wine!
