I wish I could bottle up Runner’s High and sell it - I’d be a billionaire! But more importantly, I could tap into this epic feeling whenever I wanted. It makes me feel unstoppable, invincible and inspires me to reach for my goals and dreams!⁣ ⁣ Today before my run I shared some of my story with you on Instagram live - going all the way back to childhood. One of my lifelong beliefs that has held me back is that some people are just born with greatness and those of us who weren’t won’t ever catch up. My favorite sessions with Trainer are when we do speed and agility/footwork drills like this morning. (In another life, I was a 6’0, 200 pd. free safety in the NFL.) So to me the drills are just fun, but they are also a sneaky way to build ankle stability and - in this video - keep my hips straight while hopping over the cones, which I was unable to do. Both make me a stronger and more efficient runner. Lots to improve on, but we are just starting up again. i almost fell off the box at a new circuit class when i heard the instructor tell me that i was really strong. “strong? me? that’s cute.” i said to myself. • i could think of a number of other words that described me at that moment: “lost. hurt. confused. anxious. torn.” these are all words that feel more appropriate to describe how i feel right now. • but that’s just it - those words describe how i FEEL, not what or who i AM. i can FEEL lost, hurt, conflicted, whatever it is, but still BE strong... • + so can you. • #thepowerofnow #liveinthenow #findyourstrong #spiritjunkie #armbalance #crowpose #tighthipsopenheart
#latergram from this morning’s workout. Woke up to some beautiful cool weather for once, and decided to run on the treadmill 😂 But my rationale wasn’t totally crazy, I swear! I had .75 mile repeats at interval pace and I really wanted to hit my paces and not worry about falling on my face in the dark. And it worked! I totally hit all my paces (and worked up a good sweat in the process). Workout: 2 mile WU, 4x.75 at interval pace (~7:25 pace) with .25 slow jog recovery, CD to 7.6 (I really had to pee and couldn’t make it to an even 8 😂😳)
Happy ummm... what day is it🤔... somehow my days are meshed together! Does that ever happen to you? Anyway, Sunday was a great day for a longer run, I got a 13 miler at an easy pace- I have also been cycling 🚴🏻‍♀️ quite a bit, Which if you don’t bike 🚲 as a way of active recovery a highly recommend; even its a spin class or indoor stationary bike. Today 2 weeks after my marathon and taking it easy I was able to slide right back into speed work. I actually even had one of my best 10k PR’s - too bad it was on a treadmill 😏... and not a race. (Of course) With my busy schedule lately my husband @deekvonbuesen has been helping with meal prep which is #awesome and why I love this book #runfastcookfasteatslow - yes my husband made these! 😍😍😋😋 . . . Become your own champion! Take control of your life! 🤜🏻 . I’ve experienced emotional abuse for most of my life. When it’s tied to someone you love, even as a mental health professional, it is hard to break away and draw boundaries. Love conquers so much so it’s hard to ever come to a decision to say it’s not enough. But being a systems thinker, I know that I can’t place all blame on others. This morning while listening to an audiobook, I realized that yes I have experienced emotional abuse but my reaction to that abuse was to abuse myself. When was I going to stop abusing myself?! When was I going to stop abusing my mind and my body? This is why distance is needed. I can’t love myself correctly when I allow others to not love me in a healthy way. I don’t know if this makes sense to you, but it hit home for me. So I pledge to stop abusing myself. Yesterday while in emotional distress, I chose to come home and wallow and eat unhealthy and speak unhealthy to myself and others due to my mood. Today, I changed that. Despite the outside world, I pushed forward and took care of my body, kept to schedule and completed my run. Happy Tuesday! Today I shared in my stories that I feel as I’ve reached a new breakthrough in regard to food & eating-here’s a square sized glimpse. My relationship with food story is really long. I’ve touched on it here & there- obese child/teen-> eating disorder-> many different forms of controlled eating-> spending years finding a good place. 😌 . These two quotes from @runwhole.nutrition smacked me in the face: . 1️⃣ Eating disorder recovery...is about freeing up your brain space so that you can fill it with new life-giving things. It’s about cultivating a meaningful life outside of the micromanagement of food. . 2️⃣ You are here for so much more than a life full of chronic dieting. . There are many tools to help people with their health & fitness journeys. The ability to look at a tool and say ‘you’re no longer working for me’ is an important one. Needless to say, I had to put a lot of tools away that were no longer serving me. 🔨 . My body can run a marathon. My body is strong. My body grew two humans. And I am more than just my body. I’m working on filling my brain space with life giving things & I’m filling my time with all the things that light me up. 💃🏽 . . I was so nervous about how my body might respond by running longer distance back to back days but I felt and still feel surprisingly awesome. Today even felt better than yesterday’s run 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m absolutely loving the 50* temps and I was even gifted some rain during my miles today. Was ready to put in 10 or more, though I was striving for 9 again, but lightning came in twice as soon as I hit 8.25. ☹️ Glad I decided to stop because it became an intense downpour with flash flooding. W7D2: I ran, I swore, I conquered. From the start to km 5.5, I battled the wind. I did this to myself by choosing to run west 😆. I had to keep reminding myself that I’m a tough prairie girl and at km 5.25 Papa Farmer stopped to check on me, and just after he drove on the wind shifted and things got easier. I was able to finish the last couple km at my target easy pace. We picked my pumpkins and I pulled all the flowers from the yard at home. Track Tuesday! 🔁🏃🏼‍♀️🔁 • • My coach had a new workout for me. He called it a ‘lactate threshold’. I’ve heard people talk about them before but wasn’t intimately familiar. So I googled it. After two websites mentioned running so hard you felt like you might vomit (or actually do it 🤢) I stopped googling. • • But I wasn’t going to let that intimidate me. No pain, no gain- right? • • So I programmed my workout in (2 mi wu, 6x800 with 2 min jog rest, 2 mi CD), laced up my shoes and showed that workout who’s boss. Don’t let the smile fool you. I’m exhausted and my legs are thrashed. Tomorrow’s recovery run is gonna be rough. • • Check my story for paces. Have a good night y’all! ❤️

Sometimes easy miles are not that easy, on this training cycle I’ve experienced more resistance than usual on that easy run after the long run even though if I have a day off in between, but that’s exactly one important thing I’ve learned to do during marathon training: running on tired legs!! It obviously sends the message that you can endure anything 💪🏻 Today I did only 4 miles but I swear it felt like a lot more than that 😰 . . A fun little #transformationtuesday to share my marathon journey! This transformation is about so much more than marathon finish times, although I’m excited to see the progress over the years. If the girl on the right could talk to the girl on the left, she’d say: 1. Stop running in long tights because you’re self conscious about your legs! Your legs are strong & will take you to The Boston Marathon! 2. Get a coach! (I had no idea what I was doing back in 2012 & that marathon was one of the most miserable experiences of my life. I honestly thought I’d NEVER do it again... until I got a coach @runrelated who understood me as a runner, & person, & created a training program that worked for ME to reach my goals.) 3. Dream BIG! You are so much stronger than you know! Don’t put limits on yourself. Not only will you run another marathon someday, you will run THE Boston Marathon, more than once! 4. Don’t ignore aches & pains. Running through it will only make it worse. Take care of your body & it will take you places you never dreamed were possible. 5. You will make some incredible friends along the way! My kids were all really high maintanence today, let’s just leave it at that! So when my hubby got home I handed off the baby and went to workout! I did run walk intervals .25 walking at 3.5 on the treadmill followed by .5 running at 5.5 I did this 3 times with some walking at the end! After an exciting anatomy scan yesterday (swipe right to see if we are having a boy or girl), it was a victory to wake up early again to get in my run and a few banded leg exercises. .. The treadmill feels so comfortable and controlled, but I love a good outdoor run. Hopefully my schedule will allow for it soon. Until then, I’ll just enjoy running while I still can.

I had the option of either doing this workout on the treadmill or with the stroller (& my favorite one-sock-wearing sidekick 👶🏼💙) outside. I opted outside because THIS WEATHER 😍☀️🌊🏔 It’s never “ideal” to do a workout while pushing a stroller but racing conditions are rarely “ideal” either. So, if nothing else, this keeps me mentally tough! My goal was to keep the repeats between 7:00-7:10 pace and I was able to do that fairly well with a few falling below that range 🏃🏼‍♀️🙌🏼 . . . 2 mile warm up (9:40 pace), 12x1 min (@ 7:00-7:10), 2 min jog between, 2 mile cool down (9:38 pace) . . . I felt so much better during today’s run than I did at the end of last week. I took yesterday as a total rest day. No strength, no barre, no yoga, NOTHING...well, besides infant swim class which is the caaaautest thing in the world 👶🏼💦I digress. Back to the point :: It was just what I needed to mentally & physically reset. Ready to take on another week of CIM training! 🏃🏼‍♀️💪🏼

RIP Legs. Cause of death: #tracktuesday 🏃🏼‍♀️😑 Whew. That one was hard work, but I got it done! Workout was: 1 mile warm up 2 miles at Tempo 4x200m with 200m recovery 2 miles at Tempo 1 mile cool down 7 total miles! Goal had to be adjusted just a little due to the weather, but I hit my paces on every repeat except one (missed it by 5 seconds). Super happy with these results and feeling stronger by the day. This is 32! The best gift I got today was quality time! I got to hang out with some great new friends this morning, then the kids and I went to lunch with Nate and we ended the day with my favorite type of run: a whole family run!! Hey there IG run fam💜Still here✌🏻My grind never stops! Needed to go off the social media grid for a while to take care of some things. I get wound up so tightly sometimes and I was burning the candle at both ends.➰➰➰ On top of everything else, on Aug 29 I went in to get a spot checked on my nose that had changed appearance on and off since Feb. I expected a cream. I didn’t expect to have it cut off right then and there (skin biopsy) and sent in to check for skin cancer. I had to wear a bandage on my nose over the wound for 10 days and wait 14 days for the results. Thankfully it turned out to be benign but I’ve learned my lesson and I’ll be sharing more in the next few weeks after this skin cancer scare. ➰➰➰ I also want to say thank you to those of you that reached out and expressed concern, shared similar stories, checked on me and sent prayers and positive thoughts my way the past 4 weeks. I got to enjoy family visiting and spending time/reconnecting with 4 friends from my past. Friends will come and go but true, genuine friendships always pick up right where they left off. ➰➰➰ Closing thoughts: Scars are a badge of courage and healing. No one gets thru life w/o a few scars. It’s okay to be scared because it means you’re about to do something really brave. Being confused is where you begin to learn new things. Being broken is where you begin to heal and being frustrated is where you start to make more authentic decisions. Be whatever you are right now. Don’t get caught up in the IG comparison game. Comparison is the thief of joy. Slow down - you’ll get there when you get there. Embrace your scars. No more hiding. You are worthy, always. ➰➰➰ 12 days until the Chicago marathon. Can’t believe it has been over a month since I had climbed up the #grousegrind . I was going twice/week in July, but life got busy. It is one of my favourite ways to start the day. Can you tell I love leg days? 😅 I like to chill sometimes and go with a friend. I can’t believe 1:05 once seemed out of reach for me. It is now definitely my easy pace. 3 slow miles and my knee isn’t getting any better 😥. Taking a few running rest days, switching to lots of yoga/stretching and body weight strength work to try and heal as much as I can. I think my time goals are out the window but still going to plug and chug those miles with all of the marathons. My thoughts today ~ between November & March I am going to be running 5️⃣ half marathons 😳 (love cooler weather racing season in FL). Time to get my butt in gear after taking the beginning of the summer off with absolutely no running for about 8 weeks (tendonitis 👎🏻) & not back to be half marathon ready just yet... To realize I may be a little crazy ~ I have been running for 6 years & have only done 9 half marathons up until now 🤪
