The race course wasn’t nothing to write home about - just an in and out loop, but the FINISH?! was top notch! The Chicago Spring half had the best post race celebration for the runners. Going home after several years was icing on the cake because I was able to visit quite a places that brought back memories. There’s nothing like home. #AChitownGirlForever
Lunch time! Oh my gosh, I think back to the complete crap I ate this weekend, and it’s mind boggling. Cookies, cookie dough, cookies, pizza, cookies, and more pizza 🤢 and then to top it off, we were invited to the AKC National Championship, to watch our dear friend and K9 partner receive a prestigious award. Let me just say the dinner was something fit for royalty. It was station style so I gorged myself. Woke up SO sick this morning. My diet consists primarily of plant based foods, so a weekend of endless sugar, pizza, pasta, lambchops, shrimp, prime rib, ham, imported cheeses and Italian meats...are ya feelin’ me? Yeah, I’ve been ill all morning 😂 Was it worth it? Absolutely! But now it’s time to focus and get back to healthful eating. Thankfully today is a rest day, but tomorrow starts another peak training weak, so I definitely don’t want to feel sluggish. Fruits and veggies, folks! It’s the lifeline to quality nutrients. Truly enjoying this Gala apple...and yes, even more-so than the cookies 🍎

This pic is from a half marathon I did by my self, the same day we usually run our city’s iconic half. Since this year I couldn’t be there, I decided to run it alone. A little bit of loneliness, missing my soul partner @romaldon2
, but determined to make it a great run: I ended up with my second best time at that time for a half marathon, and whole bunch af great sensations of gratitud, self worth and accomplishment.

There is nothing like being greeted by this little love bug after I finish my longest/fastest run in months. 😍😍
..... I pushed the pace a bit more on the hills yesterday, and just like that, my body executed. With each run, I am feeling more and more like myself, the woman who remains determined and never settles when she knows she is destined for so much more. As I continue to build fitness, I am also starting to transition my body toward a different running style for injury prevention. And just like it did yesterday, it will execute. 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️
When a race doesn’t go exactly as planned it’s easy to focus on the negatives and I’ll admit I was a mess right after the race. Crossing a finish line after pouring your heart into not only a race but an entire training cycle is extremely emotional. 😭 I put everything out there for this one and I so badly wanted my time to reflect that. But sometimes that doesn’t happen. John (as he always does) reminded me of all the things that went right. 🙏🏼 While a 3:02 wasn’t my goal time I know I worked hard for it and I’m proud of it. These pictures are from the past 4 years at 3B26. Each win has its own story. I guess what I’m most thankful for about this race is that I’ve been able to run it the last 4 consecutive years. To be healthy and in race shape should never be taken for granted- something I appreciate more as I’ve aged! I swear I overhear on my runs, or maybe it was the hat, but I was burning up and miserable. It’s 32 degrees and I feel like I was way overdressed. I am not working today because I’m home taking care of my oldest so she can recover from a high fever that she’s had for several days. But, today she is on the mend and just relaxing and watching tv. So I went for some late morning miles before we sit on the couch to watch Christmas movies all day. Her birthday is tomorrow so we are just celebrating a little early together. Im trying to make today sound more exciting by calling this a birthday girl skip day 😆It’s hard to believe that ten years ago today I was preparing to have my first baby. Let the birthday celebrations begin!

Manchester Marathon Training, WEEK 1 DAY 1. And so it begins... In 2018 I trained through a beautiful summer for 3 incredible marathons, I loved it, I hated it, I was excited, I was terrified. In 2019 I will train for another 3 incredible marathons, this time through winter, I’m sure I will have all of the same feelings and more. This is going to be tough, it’s harder training in winter with the dark nights, and I have some pretty big goals. There are going to be times when I have to remind myself why I started training in the first place. Chicago may be my favourite marathon but the moment that will stay with me forever is this one. I get a lump in my throat just thinking about it. Day 204: Just got back last night from spending time with my family in Toronto 💖 From no fault of anyone, we don’t see each other very often, and I feel like you don’t realize how much seeing people makes you feel loved and less lonely because your family is filled with funny, amazing, kick ass people 🦄💖
Short plane ride, so I’ll have to go back more often ✈️ I’ve found that even on short flights, my knee/s start to have a large dull ache over time, which I don’t get sitting otherwise. I think it’s the angle of the seat with the inability to move. Next flight I’m going to try to put a pillow under my bum to decrease the knee angle (theoretically less compressive force). Anyone else noticed knee pain flying?
A little tired from travelling, and I’ve got a little laundry to do, so just a shorter run today, but with possibly my coolest running jacket, which makes me run faster 😜 But seriously, my cadence is progressing from the low 160s in May, how great is that?!!

And that’s a wrap🏅2018 was as challenging as it was rewarding. 30 races completed, lots of miles logged, goals crushed, and things done I never thought I would ever do. I stepped outside of my comfort zone several times this year and took on my first trail races, running thru knee deep water, mud and muck, cow manure, bugs flying up my nose and in my mouth, in brutal Florida heat and humidity. Along with my first two half marathons back to back. Those are the ones that I’m most proud of accomplishing. It’s never too late to start, it just takes one foot in front of the other, and keep moving forward. If I have motivated or inspired one person to get up and try something outside of their comfort zone, then my year has been made! You can do it!! 2018 was without a doubt a successful running year for me. I felt stronger than ever, learned more about myself, made friends and ran PRs in the 10k, half and marathon distances. But 2018 didn’t start out that way. This time last year I was niggled. I was overworked, exhausted and had pain in my foot. I was on the verge of injury and burnout. I cancelled my plan to run the Phoenix marathon, took 4 weeks off of hard training and made some small yet impactful changes. I reduced my overall mileage and increased my cross training. I also started doing mini basement strength workouts, regular core work, living room yoga and rolling more consistently. All of these things I could fit into mini 10-30 min sessions at home once the kids were asleep in addition to my running. I cannot tell you how valuable they were. Looking back I believe they were instrumental in my PRs.-
Getting to the gym to do strength or hitting a yoga class is not often a possibility when you’re a parent of young kids. My husband and I work opposite schedules so when I’m not working I’m often single parenting. My success this year is proof, to me, of the power of short at-home workouts, and time spent rolling and doing yoga. All things I looked over and wrote off and trivial in my naive younger years when ironically I had the time to do them! —
