🌚PUSH-PRESS DAY🌚 . . So as I’ve alluded to in previous posts, I’m just starting to get back into lifting after taking it easy on myself for way too long. I guess the “I had a baby” excuse doesn’t really work when she’s almost 3 🤪 . . But in all seriousness, I’m so happy to be back on this train 🚂. I started a few months back with lifting 1x/week (squat), then 2x (squat➕bench), then 3x (squat➕bench➕deadlift), and just yesterday I decided I may be ready to add in a 4th day. . . That brings us to today’s push-press. And again, it. felt. HEAVY. I ended up ‘working up to’ 50x5x6 (2 sets shown here➡️➡️) and although that’s not much relative to what I used to be able to do, it felt good just to do it. As cheesy 🧀 as it sounds, something about pressing a bar above your head makes you feel like a superhero. Okay, maybe that’s just me. Either way, it felt good and I’m happy add this 4th day into my lift schedule. . . Ps I know there’s sometimes a debate between OHP vs push-press. Self doubt and fear has gone after answering on these questions. Believing in yourself requires some practices as it takes time for you to learn new skills in your life. You know Beautiful things take more time to grow in the end! 😊 No regret in pursuing it. I am an independent woman after all. Aw, of course, I am a cute and strong woman too😆❤🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♀️ But not a whinning baby. Never! I can lift my hubby now😝Lol. I am a strong woman to support and stand by side of my hubby😉🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♂️ I embraced my weaknesses to grow and got to angknowledge and love myself as who I am. Embraced my will to grow. And got a strong motivation to work hard. I will be keep growing and be stronger with this progress in mind.

My climbing and finger strength feel zapped after Madagascar. In fact, my whole body does! That trip, on top of a disruptive few weeks readjusting to life back in the UK, has left me feeling like I’m starting again from the bottom in terms of my climbing strength and fitness. Monday rolls have me like.... I know I’m not very good. And that’s okay. I know I have to work twice as hard as most to be able to keep up. And that’s okay, too. Don’t get me wrong, I’m okay...I know I’m strong, but I don’t want to depend on my strength all the time. I want to be technical. I want to be smart about my movement. I want to see “the whole board” & “moves ahead of me” like a good chess player. But right now...I’m still playing ConnectFour..lol. And that’s okay...for now. I employ the advice of @derekweida & I EMBRACE THE SUCK. On the days I feel like I didn’t perform up to par...I own it, I absorb it & then I show up again & try to kill it. I keep telling myself I’m in the homestretch. Just 4 more days & I’ll be dipping my toes in the blue belt pool for the first time. And then I can check another thing off the list. Why does fitness as a lifestyle bring me so much joy? . Many reasons, but one is: I stopped living in a space of “shoulds” and “shouldn’ts”. . “I should go to the gym” “I shouldn’t be eating this” “I should get in shape.” . Sound familiar? . No one is telling you you should or shouldn’t do anything. 🤔 Self-loathing is not self-improvement, so I learned to be kind to myself. . I started to love my body for the things it became capable of doing over time. I learned to do one push-up, then 5, then 10. I took baby steps. I felt like I was accomplishing something, and it was for me, not for anyone else, not for societal expectations of what my body should look like. So I stopped exercising for “I should” statements, and started exercising for “I want” statements. . The other reason fitness brings me joy is because of what I do for work. My work is very intangible, sometimes abstract, mostly subjective, and not so concrete. A big part of my job is listening to people about their feelings and thoughts. My “progress” at work can not be measured in any sort of quantitative way. Engaging in a tactile, concrete thing that is fitness, where I can see physical progress, makes me so happy. . Whoo!!!! Exciting day! I've been running anywhere from 1x a week to 1× every 2 weeks, to 2x in a week, and haven't felt this good until today! When I started training for my tri back in January, I just started with the goal of FINISHING. Which, I did! AND placed in top 3 for my age division. However, it also meant that I wasn't training to run at any specific speed, rather to simply be able to CONTINUE running after having swam 1/4 of a mile and bike 14 on hills. I found that my pace was significantly slower than what I knew I was capable of, so about a month ago I started challenging myself to run to pace. Now, I blew it out of the water while feeling cool/calm/not nauseous! Here is what I did: WOD: RUN Warm up: Jog ~8 min (if we are putting this on a 1-10 scale, 1 being a walk and 10 being an all out sprint, jog at a level 3) Plyometric or dynamic stretching for about 4-5 min; GOAL is to get the muscles springy with blood and oxygen Workout: INTERVALS EITHER: 8x [run at a level 6-7 for 2 min, rest for 1 min] OR: do as many as you can [1/4 mile intervals at a solid pace (think still 6-7), rest for 1 min after each one] in 25 minutes Cool down: Keep moving and breathing for a few minutes. When your breathing is undercontrol, begin stretching. Muscles to focus on: hamstrings, quads, side body, chest openers, calves, feet. I know what my goal pace is for a 1 mile, so I based my workout on an 8 min mile pace aiming for 2 min each 1/4 of a mile. YOU choose whichever works for you based on what will work, if you don't know how far 1/4 mile is in your hood, then do the top one, if you know what yout goal pace is AND you know where each 1/4 mile is then do that. You can do this with very little equipment, I literally just needed my running clothes and a stopwatch you can get for <10 at Walmart. I figured out how far 1/4 mile was in my neighborhood by going for a walk and paying attention to my Samsung Health app while tracking a walk. Most importantly, have fun! We now know that exercise is not a "one size fit all" especially when you have specific goals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let me breakdown to you how to make your workout more effective to achieve your weight loss goals.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ First. You must have a clear goal and your exercise program MUST match that goal. Set your goal…is it to lose 10 or 20lbs, are you just trying to tone and tighten, is your goal health related, are you trying to lower your blood pressure? Figure out your goal and from there create a plan that matches that goal.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Second. Challenge yourself. Typically for fat loss you want to be doing 4 sets, moderate weight, 20 reps each. If your goal is too bulk, or gain muscle you're looking at 3-4 sets, heavy weight, 8-12 reps. 2 exercises for each muscle you are working AND it should be challenging. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Third.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Switch it up! You’ve been doing the same exact workout every time you go to the gym. 6 months of bicep curl, tricep extension, squat, leg extension and then cardio. There are so many ways to work each muscle group. I say switch it up every 4-6 weeks so as soon as your body gets used to one workout you change it up for a bigger challenge.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you haven't been seeing the progress these may help.
