How do I say this ladies….sometimes the current #bossbabe
movement bothers me. I could be the only one. It's preachy and overused and lately I've been rolling my eyes at some of it..which is…not helpful for anyone. I can not stress the importantance of cultivating a space for women in leadership and I'm not against the movement, so please don't twist your reaction to what I'm about to say. For me, the #bossbabes
culture in the US is just, well, missing something. It's missing a lot. It creates yet another box for others to get stuck in, to build limits, and to minimize performance which is exactly what we don't need.…so let me offer a counter thought, or maybe, my revision to the #bossbabe
movement so you know what I mean if I say it or use the phrase. .
Don't let the terms #girlboss
put you in a box. Honey, saying you have a woman-owned business isn't a gold star or a stamp of success, you need to lead and work hard. Don't fall into the trap that you'll succeed based on your gender, that road has proven wrong and dangerous over and over again. •We, as leaders, as women, need to strive to take pride in our businesses, in our jobs, in our roles. •We as leaders, as women, can not be selfish in our attempts to reach and coach others. •We must invest time in educating ourselves, building credibility in our field, and allowing our reputation be the door that advances the vulnerability to change.
Our feminine side is the lens we use to see the world, it's important, it's strong, it's noble, it's worth celebrating. So yes, be a #bossbabe
, but more importantly, have the courage to show up and #lead
, be the #boss
