The last thing I want to think about on an 80 degree day...
I picked up another Vermont Castings stove, locally from @jmlaucks. I’m going to replace the Upland in my basement with this one because it was too small and needed to be filled every couple hours. This should do the trick... the Upland will be installed in the garage. So I should be set for next winter.

Been absent for a few days. The stomach bug and flu hit our family, my new little calf Artemis got the scours, we've had family from out of state visiting, the house was a wreck... but thankfully we are on the mend from being sick, things are calming down around the house for the moment, Artemis seems to be on the mend also, and since very cold, icy rain and wind blew in during the night and hit this morning, I'm doing a spot of reading, keeping warm by the fire and preparing some homegrown pumpkin puree for some pumpkin bread later this evening. #warmth#woodstove#pumpkinbread#baking#reading#writing#cozy#winter#ice#wind#cold#blustery#february#sallyclarkson#bible
Daughter, are you waiting for permission? You know my answer. Do what you do. Your breath is permission. I enter your heart - a fire in the temple. Fear is darkness, but I bring light. On moonless nights - even in the cave of despair, you know what to do. I sing in your throat. I unfold my truth - the perfect lotus of my being, my Mother, my temple fire. Reach for me. I am the light inside the blue lotus unfolding. Hold the light in your hands. Every morning. the light in your hands... Feel it run down your arms, Its honey dribbled over your head. It fills you. Dip your pen into the pool of gathering light.

A small, new, somewhat neo-classical cast-iron wood stove (or wood burner as my friends across the channel might call it) that I spied through the window of an ironmonger's in Portugal last week. Now I daydream of installing it in the back bedroom. (The one with a problem of damp in the summer.) The tag says this model is called "Salamandra Alba". Salamander skin was fire-proof, the ancients believed. Maybe they were right. Not that I'm going to test it. Salamanders shall live unmolested in my small kingdom. Prester John wrapped himself in a cloak of salamander skin to protect himself from flames. His palace was said to have room for thirty thousand to feast at once; none who arrived were ever turned away from his door. The chief among his guests sat at a table carved of emerald, said to prevent drunkenness. I imagine him in his salamander skin robe, seated at his emerald table, his back to the flames of the great roaring fire that heated this hall for thirty thousand, and think, "Now THAT fire would banish the summer damp."
This winter we started the season with far more firewood put up than we normally do. Mostly due to building the cabin, there was just a lot of odds and ends, and rejected logs, from the building project. We usually only cut up a week or so of firewood at a time.

We’ve only lived in this home about six months & it’s our first winter with a wood stove as our sole source of heat- and I do not want that fire ever going out!! Somebody tell me how you keep your firewood organized & stocked?!?? This is my latest attempt- here goes nothing🤞🏼

We've had a few requests from customers asking if we could sell separately the telescopic fire bellows tube that features in our Spitfire Pocket Fire Lighting Kit.
Pleased to say that we now offer the Spitfire Telescopic Pocket Bellows as a separate product, which means this handy fireside tool can be added to your own fire lighting kit or survival kit, or used to really fire up BBQs / wood burning stoves!
The Spitfire Telescopic Pocket Bellows is available now from Polymath Products, and you can purchase them on our website (follow link in our bio).
“There are two spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. One is the danger of supposing that breakfast comes from the grocery, and the other that heat comes from the furnace.” ~Aldo Leopold 🔥 We have been out of LP for one week. Our refill will arrive eventually, we aren’t going to spend $200 extra to have our refill expedited. We also don’t need to have our refill expedited because our house is still warm and cozy. Not being able to use my oven has been a minor inconvenience, but nothing we can’t work around. Belly’s are full and our house is warm. This week I have a renewed appreciation for the sweat and time put into the wood we are burning and I also have a new appreciation for a furnace that used to kick in at night so I don’t have to stoke a fire at 1am 😝.
