🌲 Git Workflow 🌲⠀
I use Git. Git is a source code control system written by Linus Torvalds in 2005. It's decentralized, fast and has a great branching model. There are different ways to use Git, with the most well known, Gitflow created by Vincent Driessen. You can read more about it in nvie.com blog post "A successful Git branching model" or Atlassian documentation.⠀
However, as I usually work with small teams and projects (2 to 4 developers), using Gitflow would be over-engineering for my everyday process. Hence here is the workflow that I use in all projects, the Git Feature Branch workflow:⠀
➡️ Create a local feature or bug branch. The branch name should follow this pattern: , e.g., add-login-system.⠀
➡️ Increment should be committed and pushed in a daily base to keep a fresh copy in the repository.⠀
➡️ When a feature or bug fix is completed and tests pass, push the changes and submit a Pull Request.⠀
➡️ Another team member reviews the Pull Request. When satisfied, one approves the Pull Request, meaning that it's ready to merge with "staging" branch. The merge process will delete the branch and trigger the Continuous Integration (CI) pipeline.⠀
➡️ Based on the releases plan, the "staging" branch is merged into "master" manually triggering the production CI pipeline for the most recent merged commits.⠀
Let me know which Git workflow do you use and why! 👍⠀
Praying this night will be smooth. 😊👍
