Purple-rumped Sunbird Endemic to Indian subcontinent, they are small in size mainly feeding on nectar but sometimes eat insects when feeding. The males are brightly coloured and easily distinguished from the purple sunbird. #yearofthebird2018 #birdyourworld #wildlifeofinstagram #wildlifephotograpy #wildlifeofficial #wildlifeonearth #discoveryindia #lonelyplanetasia #bbcearth #sanctuaryasiamagazine #sanctuaryasia #wpcover #natgeotraveller #discoveryindia #natgeoyourshot #instaclick #instashots #instabird #birds #birdlove #birdsofbhopal #india_shutter_bugs #indiainsta
It may still have some growing up to do, but this youngster is well on its way to becoming one of the most powerful avian predators to grace Africa’s skies. The martial eagle is the biggest eagle species on the continent, and among the heaviest in the world. Sadly, their numbers have declined dramatically in some areas since the 1980s, and they’re now listed as “Vulnerable” to extinction on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. #yearofthebird2018 #twitching #birding #birdstagram #birdwatchers #birdlovers #birdsofinstagram #eagles #raptors #birdsofprey #martialeagle

#Repost from @timlaman with @regram.app ... Video by @TimLaman. I spent months in the forests of Thailand and Indonesia to capture footage of the rare, endangered Helmeted Hornbill. This male is provisioning the female and chick inside their nest cavity in the tree, where they stay for an incredible five months as the chick grows to full size. See my new National Geographic article in the September issue, and the full video online at the link in my profile @TimLaman. @NatGeo and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology collaborated to make this coverage possible, and much thanks to our partners in the field #ThailandHornbillProject , and @RangkongID. #endangeredspecies , #yearofthebird2018 , #helmetedhornbill , #hornbill , #Thailand , #shotonRED , @reddigitalcinema
This week’s bird is a widespread resident of wooded grasslands and open savannahs. With its trim crest and low-key colouring, the rufous-naped lark may not be the most flamboyant bird around, but males can certainly draw attention to themselves with a melodious and resonant whistling call. Despite the common name, the rufous (reddish-brown) nape isn’t always present. Interesting fact: the largest number of lark species can be found right here on the African continent!  #yearofthebird2018 #twitching #birding #birdstagram #birdwatchers #birdlovers #birdsofinstagram #larks #bushlarks #passerines
2018 is the YEAR OF THE BIRD - In 2018, National Geographic mark the centennial of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the most powerful and important bird-protection law ever passed. / 👍 it’s a great example 👍. I hope that Slovak government will no longer allow exceptions in laws that lead to deforestation. This year the scale of deforestation in Slovakia can be already considered as national shame and for conservationists it’s a nightmare. Slovakia therefore 🇸🇰 needs to join countries which prioritize protection of forests and wildlife. / I have made this 🎃 👻 bird 🦅 dreamcatcher, to remind me,us, that in 100 years from now, not only Slovakia, but Earth 🌏 might become a place of what we now can only imagine as worst nightmare. #yearofthebird2018 #nationalgeographic #2018 #protectwildlife

Saw some twitterpated Mourning Doves.
Gray-cheeked Thrush. This one was hard to identify despite being uncharacteristically curious for a Thrush (he followed me along the trail while still keeping to cover). He didn’t have an eye ring and was a duskier color than other thrushes I’ve encountered. — #thrush #graycheekedthrush #bird #birds #birdwatching #birding #nature #naturewalk #naturelovers #sketchbook #fieldnotes #sketch #drawing #pencilsketch #pencildrawing
