when you try to make one of those cute yogi vids but wind up kicking your sister’s butt and missing each other’s feet and laughing and falling out of it for the first 10 tries.. we have a long ways to go 🤸🏻♀️✨
“Öğrenmenin yolu karşılaşmaktan geçer.” diye bir cümle okumuştum. Hayatında karşılaşmadığın bir şeyi bilmen, anlaman, öğrenmen zordur. Matında / pratiğinde karşılaşmadığın bir pozu da kavraman aynı şekilde güç olur. Ama bir gün gelir ve o poz senin için alışılagelmiş olur ya, işte öğrenmek tam bu noktada ve alışkanlıkla devam eder.

I recently saw a debate about a post stating the importance of surrender within a yoga/spiritual practice. While I understand the sentiment behind the instruction I find this language is often misconstrued, misused and stops short of teaching students to develop their own tools to take accountability and introspect. If surrendering is all that happens then is the student just placing their hopes in someone else to fix what they think needs fixing? Here’s an example:
Over the past few days my daughter has had pink eye. She screams bloody murder when I administer the eye drops. What might only take me 10 seconds becomes a 10 minute project. Each time we finish her discomfort immediately subsides and the medicine appears to be clearing up her eyes. As her parent I could just tell her this is the way it is, “surrender and take your medicine.” She might grow to think that she’s not capable of administering her own medicine. As a teacher this become a real opportunity for me to draw her awareness to reflect upon her fear of this experience. It’s my job to remove my own expectations of her and encourage self-examination.
One path is likely motivated by my impatience for her and one path is motivated by empathy. In the case of empathy it doesn’t matter how she reacts my job is only to remove my own narratives about the experience and encourage her to reflect back to the experience before, during and after the medicine. I can tell you that choosing this method might feel slower in the beginning but I already see shifts in how she’s handling the experience that go beyond her taking eye drops. She’s exploring her own reactions (not bad for a 3 year old.
How does this relate to teaching adults? In this way seasoned teachers may have some foresight into what may help you progress quicker. I may know some short cuts to force the medicine down. But isn’t it more useful to students to learn how to administering their own medicine through introspection? And then of course the fact that I’m not your dad 🤷♂️
Transformation Tuesday, it’s not always about those chiseled muscles, but about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. The first time I saw this pose I was like yeah right, like I could ever do that! My arms have always been weak, then add a bad shoulder, forearm, & wrist(all on the same side) & I limited what I thought I could do. Yes, do I need to be careful not to re-injure myself? Absolutely, but I also need not be afraid to challenge my body’s limit.
So wherever you’re working to transform your life, keep going, keep pushing your limits, someday you’ll get there!

Do you ever feel guilty about having "negative emotions?" You may have just woken up in a bad mood, angry at the world, and glaring at the cat for no apparent reason over the top of your heavy coffee mug?
Perhaps you're in a beautiful paradise, but are feeling completely bummed out and gloomy?
Then, to top it all off, you are feeling shameful about feeling crappy because you're supposed to be positive and happy, right? That's crap!
In fact, suppressing our emotions tends to just make everything worse. It doesn't eliminate the source of the bad mood in the first place and it sure as hell doesn't make you feel happy.
We NEED to allow ourselves to feel ALL of our emotions. Our emotions are our biggest teachers. They're clues to things that might be out of alignment in our lives.
Plus, our darker emotions are necessary to give polarity to our brighter ones. Here is one of my favorite quotes by Osho: "Sadness gives depth. Happiness gives height. Sadness gives roots. Happiness gives branches. Happiness is like a tree going into the sky, and sadness is like the roots going down into the womb of the earth. Both are needed, and the higher a tree goes, the deeper it goes, simultaneously. The bigger the tree, the bigger will be its roots. In fact, it is always in proportion. That's its balance." If you are feeling guilty about any darker emotions you are experiencing (i.e. sadness, anger, jealousy), I challenge you to not run away from it. Sit down with it. Allow yourself to feel whatever is coming up for you.
Ask why? Explore whatever answers come up for you.
Wanna take the challenge even further? Write a thank you letter to whatever emotions you are experiencing. If you're angry, thank the anger to helping you become aware of where you need to create boundaries. If you're feeling anxious, thank the anxiety for trying to protect you.
I will never tell you to "just focus on the positive." We must see the darkness to appreciate the beauty of the light.
Moving from handstand to upward facing dog. A transition that I've just been able to understand and practice. Still some arch in my spine as I need some more flexibility in my shoulders, but slowly getting there. Every new challenge comes as a way to discover yourself, it hits your ego and grounds you a little more. Keeping yourself humble, curious and patient may help to overcome the difficulties that the practice makes you face. ☺️🤸 #vriksasana #handstandpractice #handstandnation #inversionaddict
I must confess: I was so freaking scared of trying this #funkypincha
🙈 that I always avoided the simple idea of practice it. But that's why this is a challenge. Isn't? I still have a long journey ahead in order to make my shoulders stronger 😁
This photo here was my second attempt and it was the best I could get. I was actually able to hold the posture for few seconds and play with my feet. But after that I was exhausted enough and I couldn't reply it. Today I tried again... No luck 😅 that's how it is and I want to be really honest. The good news is that I already broke the fear of the 1st time so I'll keep practicing and let's see where I get in few months ☺️🙏🏼
Wishing you a wonderful day my beautiful souls 😘💙

Time is an element of life that we can never get back. Time doesn’t stop for anyone. Don’t let time pass you by. Don’t waste time on those and things not worth your time. Don’t waste time procrastinating on your dreams and goals. Don’t even wait until the new year to set and start your goals. Do it now. There’s no better moment than the present. What you do today, reflects in your tomorrow. Invest your time wisely, we only have a limited amount of time on this Earth, make it worthwhile 🌏 ✨
PS. I am here every Sunday 6:30pm teaching Yin Yoga.
It’s 100% floor-based and it involves long holds (3-5min) it’s extremely relaxing and a great way to rest for the new week ✨

This post is with the highest level of respect, to two amazing human beings. @leonielockwoodyoga
Earlier this year, one of our lead team members Ross, was gifted a Level 1 Yin Yoga Teacher Training scholarship, by both parties for free.
Both Leonie and Eva wanted to support our community, in bringing the healing arts to our members, and they did so by this overwhelming gift of knowledge.
Leonie and I both share the same teachers of Yin, and the skills learnt have been an absolute compliment to the Veteran and First Responder Community in Australia.
Ross now teachers regularly at Saltwater Yoga Studios and encourage both veteran and civilians alike to go along to his classes.
Thank you Leonie and Eva from all the BTY community in Australia and internationally.
Setting gold class standards in being human.
Am excited to have Dylan Werner here in Singapore coming March 2019!
I have been hoping to see him in action ever since I came across a video of his arm balancing sequence.
Sometimes I really feel blessed to be in Singapore because we are so well exposed to both good local and international teachers.
As a contrast to some of the friends I met in India, their only access to yoga is through online materials and youtube videos.
And trust me, there is a world of difference between a real life practice and online learning. A few pointers from a good teacher can propel your journey in leaps and bounds ahead!
