It took a long time for me to feel my body was my home—not a “sin tent,” or reason for shame or an antagonist I had to defeat with reward /punishment. Yoga (and great talk therapy and somatic dance healing) helped me FEEL my body—in all its states of wellness, sickness, injury, and ecstasy—is HOME. How are you tending your home today? And how can we contribute to the wellness of our collective home? As fires rage in California, and our Climate-Change denying president slings mud at those whom he should be helping, I feel the body of the Earth in such great need for care...awareness. Can you help me make a list of ways we can “take care” of both our bodies? (Meet me in the comments. I’ll share our list in my IG story. 🙏🏻)

‼️ We close out this fun yoga mythology challenge with Lord Krishna & Natavarasana (of which I added a picture of a Sri Krishna statue, doing natavarasana ☺️🙏🏼)
Krishna was born when the great Hindu god, Vishnu, pulled two hairs from his own head and planted it into the womb of a princess – Devaki. His mother’s brother (his uncle) had been warned that his sister’s eighth child would kill him, so he set out to murder Krishna (who was the 8th son). His uncle had killed 7 other babies prior to Krishna’s arrival to avoid the prophecy. However, Krishna’s parents knew this ahead of time and hid the baby in a village in Vrindavana, where Krishna was raised a simple herder. He spent an idyllic childhood in the remote village and made many of the village girls fall for him with his good looks, charm, and unearthly ability to play music and dance. Thus the story of Krishna contains a double concealment - Krishna is both a god disguised as a mortal and a prince disguised as a commoner.
(For those of you who are curious, Krishna ended up beheading his scheming uncle and taking his throne).
Thank you to all our incredible participants! We hope you had fun!

“Let me not think of my work only as a stepping stone to something else, and if it is, let me become fascinated by the shape of the stone.”
This picture is a liar. Seconds after it was taken I fell down on my back. This was the best in a series of unflattering and unsuccessful attempts at an unassisted handstand. And I love it!
I love the unbalanced hand positioning, I love the way my feet are shown uncontrolled completely at the mercy of gravity. And finally I love how my hips are not fully stacked over my shoulders.
I love this picture so much because it is a reminder of both how far I have come and how far I am from where I want to be.
My personal challenge is to see how much my handstands can improve in a week. Take a peek at the stories if you want to follow along! 📸: @mrlizarde
I wonder what drives you forward when you lose your way in life? For me during those times, the inner knowing is my only true compass. You CAN NOT fake or miss that inner knowing!
You know it when it comes. So what can we do to hear it better? Today I chose to go out, found the swing at the beach and called that inner child 🙏🏻
It brought lightness, meaning, joy to my thoughts 💭 🧘♀️ See you on the mat!

THE GOOD OL' DAYS -- Have you ever found yourself talking about how great life used to be? How effortlessly happy and worry-free you and your family members were? It is said that our dopamine levels decrease as we age. "Dopamine is a chemical in the brain called a neurotransmitter that's necessary for feelings of pleasure and happiness." And so as we get older we actually have to seek out experiences that increase our dopamine levels. Excercise, physical affection from the people you love, creating connections with others, a clean diet, changes in your daily routine no matter how big or small are just some examples. With some of the things we are taught in school, the path some of us are forced on, the big decisions we are faced with at such a young age when we really don't know what the heck we wanna do for the rest of our lives, the idea that we have to meet our soul mate, get married, buy a house and a car and have children distract us from finding our true happiness and from living our lives to the fullest. As cliche as it sounds, it truly is the simple things that make life worth living. And it takes a lot of unlearning to teach ourselves this kind of mentality and to accept that what we've been trained to do may not necessarily be what makes us happy. Do you find that you did everything by the book yet you're left feeling unfulfilled? Let go of the ideology that was stored in your brain from people who know nothing about you or what you really want in life. Unlearn it, let it go and teach yourself that you are the only one in control of the outcomes of your journey. Teach yourself to put your phone down, to stop being too busy with work or study to spend time with your loved ones. Be respectful and kind and those things will reciprocate. Seek out your passions and live and breathe them. Be here, now and learn to love it because tomorrow, a month from now, 10 years from now you'll look back and wish that you could re-live this moment.
P.S: shaky as hell arm balances but they'll get better 💙
