2nd Muay Thai training ever - really awful technique, maybe if I came back everyday for the rest if the year I might actually be able to combine more than 2 things 🙈😂 #muaythai #kook
also sporting a giant bruise on my shin #goodtimes
5th Yama and the last of Yamas - Aparigraha, translates to not coveting or no jealousy. An easy example is when we are admiring/coveting someone else’s asana in yoga class. As we move throughout the day, we often judge the world around us; we compare ourselves to other people, their successes, their ah-ha moments and their celebrations. We ooh and aah over someone else’s bag, shoes, car, boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, status, success, money, or happiness. And then we feel less than. There are eight billion people on planet Earth and if we try to compare ourselves to eight billion other people, it’s like comparing bananas to oranges to grapes to cotton balls to geodes to leaves to birds – how can you compare those? You can’t. Just like those you might covet, there may be those who covet you and what you have. The cycle of jealousy is infinite, unless you choose to step into your grace and step beyond it. When you start to feel that jealousy bubbling up, remind yourself “aparigraha, aparigraha”, then shift to gratitude. Stop for a moment and recognize something you do have that is amazing or something that could use some work. Celebrate the other person and what they have…and when you can merge with their excitement, that’s yoga, that’s union, that’s one-ness. 🙏😍

Worry less about judgement and more about LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE ❤️

As opposed to this picture taken under a beautiful South African summer sunset, my mind is too cloudy to come up with anything decent to write today (its Monday). In truth, I feel like a cloud today, just floating around in the sky, observing everything happening on Earth, it’s a pretty calm and peaceful space to be. Looking forward to teaching this evening at Well-Being in Luxembourg, and reconnecting with my mind/body/spirit, and simultaneously letting myself go into a meditative vinyasa flow 🌬✨#thepowerofyoga

Transformation isn’t sweet and bright. It’s a dark and murky, painful pushing. An unraveling of the untruths you’ve carried in your body. A practice in facing your own created demons. A complete uprooting, before becoming. -Victoria Erickson
It’s a beautiful thing.
To have lungs that
Breathe fresh air.
And legs capable of
And spaces where
Wifi doesn’t exist.
It’s a shame that some
People will never experience
On Saturday, I did an 8 mile hike before I went into Boulder to teach two classes and meet @sophmiller
to take @ehmmagray
class to seal the day @corepoweryoga.
It felt a little nostalgic going on this particular journey because along the way I passed what felt like chapters to where I am now. Open meadows, rock walls, waterfalls, bridges, forests, and streams. This place was my special oasis once upon a time and it was cool to have it documented for our next @tvlayoga
Tomorrow I leave for San Francisco for a quick trip and I can’t imagine how different the “city” will be... cheers to being a girl just living her dream — one warrior 2 at a time. #namaste
Day 3 - Ibiza Retreat - Full moon ... All my life I feel I have been searching for my home. It has lead me to travel far and wide, change my path, abandon relationships, step out of comfort, embrace uncertainty, uproot again and again .. all in pursuit of stability and peace. I used to think I was looking in all the wrong places, or running away from life. While its true that 'home' is to be found within the self, I have grown to understand the necessity of this shedding... this rebirth ... these opportunities to re-assess and begin again. Tonight as the full moon illuminates the Ibizan sky we will come together to set intentions and burn away that which no longer nourishes us... all in the faith that we do not need to fear change, that we have the right to choose, that this beautiful life is all about the journey 📷: @albert_adout_photography #beherenow

Not so disturbed✋
Meditation teaches us how to build a shield against the things that trouble us.
When we sit in meditation, a variety of disruptions arise, especially if we are meditating with a group of people. Our thoughts, the pain in our joints or back, the heavy breathing of the person sitting next to us, or noise coming from the outside can all bother us. Yet again, we are asked to accept it, focus on the breath, and watch the temporary nature of things. Whatever emerges in our meditation session will eventually fade away.
The same applies to life. Meditation teaches us to become more tolerant of the things that bother us and that we can’t control. It could be as simple as a dog barking or as serious as the death of a loved one. As in meditation, we watch life’s ephemeral nature and learn to accept it.🍃🌿🍃

It's Monday, new beginnings
Turn things upside down
Take a new perspective
Shake it up and save your knees
Finding stillness where there was once fear.❣️
Why yoga? It’s not the strength, flexibility or ability to do some really rad stuff with my body. It’s not going to a class where you can’t breathe out of your mouth, drink water for up to two hours or practise in a 40° heated room. If strength is your goal you’re probably better off going to the gym as it’s far more efficient. The asana is is a part of yoga, but you can say you are practising yoga while driving, hiking or at work. The practise is in the mind, putting your body in a difficult situation & observing how the mind acts. The practise comes to life when the mind is meditative no matter what you throw at it. Yoga means yolk - bringing together the body, mind and soul to work in unity. The better you can do this on the mat, the more able you are to in your daily life. When someone wrongs you, are you quick to get even? Or can you sit with your thoughts and reason with them. Can you control how the external world effects your internal reality? The same way you open your back in Ustrasana, you open your heart. The same way you open your tight hips, you release the tension in your mind. A book I am reading talks about neuroplasicity and how meditation can actually change certain parts of your brain. Just as the Buddha said thousands of years ago “as a carpenter carves wood, the wise shape their mind” it is now being proven that Meditation can change the brain. The more you meditate, the larger your pre-frontal cortex grows - This part of your mind controls your ability to be self-aware, self regulate, have empathy/compassion, plan and problem solve. It keeps your amygdala in line which is your “fight or flight” head quarters. Once the body registers a threat, this part of your mind registers the past and categories it as friend or foe. Without control over the amygdala, you can live in constant fight or flight. Your body is always in fear and high strung. Fear is where ego lives. We keep up a persona and story to validate our behaviours, feelings and thought. The ego uses our story to make excuses for the way we live. The more we can keep our fear in line, the higher chances we can live the life we came here to live. Thats yoga.
In a world of go, go, go, it’s so easy to get caught up in the negative. The things that didn’t go as planned, the things you said you’d get done but didn’t, and the things that turn that beautiful smile of yours upside down. Remember that it’s important to learn to breathe and just BE. Cheers to another week coming to an end and hoping you find balance and space for the next one.
Playing around with strength, balance and flexibility all at once 💪🏻⚖️🤸🏼♀️
Just because someone is doing something with their body that you didn’t think was possible, or you don’t think you could ever do that yourself, it doesn’t mean they are any better or worse at yoga than you are. Although seeing a beautiful picture with a beautiful yoga pose can be inspiring, the point of yoga is how it feels, during and after your practice, it never is about how it looks. There is no such thing as being “good” at yoga. Instagram is all about beautiful photographs, but yoga is just about living a beautiful life - whilst using this platform don’t get distracted with comparisons.
You can find space in your breath, between the inhales and exhales. You can find space physically in postures that you practice. You can find space between your thoughts... space is the place to be 😋
