🙆🙏How long should I hold a stretch? 🤔 . If you’re wanting to improve flexibility, holding your stretches for at least 1 minute is a good target 🎯 Our muscles have a natural stretch reflex (which stops sudden excessive stretching & protects us from injury) SO, if you are purposely stretching to gain flexibility you should aim to gently stretch through this reflex... Flexibility is all about time under tension, it takes around 20secs to ease through the stretch reflex & then all the gains happen after that! 💪🏼😁 If you focus on taking big breaths it also makes it wayyyy less painful & easier to get deeper 😌 . BONUS...here’s my personal secret to really improving my flexibility: Stretch everything twice over! The way of Dharma - Part two The most important ethical dharma, sometimes called the supreme dharma, is Ahimsa, often translated as "non-violence." More accurately it means "non-harming," having an attitude of mind that does not wish injury to any creature, not merely for human beings, but also for animals, creatures of the sea and the entire natural order. For it to be complete, Ahimsa must extend not only to actions but also to speech and thought. Ahimsa is the most important observance in the practice of yoga and the basis for mental peace, which is not possible if we harbour thoughts of harm for others. How can we sincerely engage gage in spiritual practices if we are engaged in actions that are violent, destructive, deceptive or manipulative? Ahimsa is the basis of the Ayurvedic approach to health and the support of all real healing. Health and well-being arise from a state of mind and a lifestyle that does not project harm onto other creatures. Ahimsa is behind the Ayurvedic recommendation of a vegetarian diet, but it extends to all ayurvedic healing prescriptions. Food should not be based upon cruelty. Food, after all, is a means of providing nourishment. What kind of nourishment can be derived from food that reflects not the energy of love but that of exploitation? Sit at a computer a lot? Or feel that your posture could use some work? This shoulder stretch is one of my favorites for stretching the chest and shoulders throughout the work day. Whether standing, seated, or practicing your favorite yoga pose, simply reach behind the back and grasp the fingers together, palms facing upwards. If you are unable to grab the fingers, that's okay! Try to grab the opposite elbows behind the back instead. In both variations, focus on pulling the shoulder blades down and back while lifting the chest open. Vrksaasana-Tree Pose! A standing balancing pose I often teach, it’s great for your balance, strengthening of the ankles and sharpening your concentration! Top tip! Keep your standing foot ground, left your toes off the ground, spread them wide and ground them down. Imagine golden roots grounding down into the centre of the Earth. Draw strength from the centre of the Earth up through the golden roots and through the sole of your foot. Make sure your front foot is straight. When placing your raised foot be sure to avoid your knee! This is a no no! Either place the foot in your inner calf or thigh.
