A few days ago, I did my first inversion yoga pose. It scared me for so long. Thanks to @puresun_lover and her video, I did some baby steps daily to prepare my body and then two days ago I finally made it. I could feel a sense of freedom in my body. One of my favorite ways to decorate the house for the holidays is DRIED ORANGES! . . Simple to make, smell amazing, and great for hanging on the christmas tree as ornaments! . . I always teach an arm balance during my classes, at least crow/crane/bakasana every single time. I found that it's empowering and a really good way to show you, how important proper alignment in chaturanga dandasana/ four limbs staff pose is even if you keep disregarding cues and corrections 😛 and why core is paramount. Also because it forces to face your fears if any. Now often I feel students are defeated real quick, but don't! It's a process, and you must honor it! And If you have never tried it don't beat yourself up, if you do it once a week for 10 seconds, you probably won't nail it like a miracle. It takes time and commitment and a bunch of patience. Listen, and pay attention to the most subtle details. You will be surprised of how tremendous your potential is. That's how you ll find your meditation. Side note it took me 2 years of sweet fury to fly this one and it's not perfect and still working on my other side. "TRAIN THE HUMAN FIRST AND ATHLETE SECOND" _ A saying I've been utilizing for myself and clients these past couple of years. First heard it from @drandreospina _ I'm pretty sure we can all agree that every sport or physical activity we perform requires our joints to move with control in specific ways. (Martial arts, yoga, volleyball, soccer, football, running, baseball, golf, ect.) Human biology requires it. If our joints don't move how they're meant to, then issues can start to occur. _ When I first start with one-on-one clients, the first thing we do is a joint-by-joint assessment. And then build from there. _ If your joints move well ➡️ you'll control your body better ➡️the better you control your body, the better your movement ➡️the better your movement, the less your movement will falter ➡️and the less likely you will get injured. _ It all comes down to joint capacity. What's yours like? Are you doing something about it? _ In the picture I'm working on Hip IR (internal rotation). Something I've struggled with for a long time. Some of my clients know this exercise pretty well. Sometimes going into CRAMP 💢 city 😂 _ Prioritize joint health ➡️integrate it ➡️increase capacity to your needs. It's what I saw growing up. Maybe you did too. And do you know what that does? It completely BLINDS me from my vision. My vision gets NO focus when my focus is all on what's not working. How can I create my dream life if it's not getting any attention? 😂🤦‍♀️ #sillygirl I have been living in my SHIT on and off pretty much since I found out I was pregnant. And I am 100% committed to being open and vulnerable and honest about my journey because I KNOW if I'm going through something, someone somewhere in the collective is experiencing the same thing... Heres what I'm really learning this season and maybe it can serve you too, it's very simple - this journey called life IS the joy. Life IS the destination. Every morning we wake up IS the blessing. Each moment, laugh, cry, experience, hardship... that IS the goal. We are literally here to EXPERIENCE all of these things.🦋 That's it. Just experience. We begin to suffer and stress and worry and feel unhappy when we DECIDE in our own mind that something is wrong, something is hard, something isnt meant for us. But what if we took on life with the mindset that EVERYTHING is beautiful? EVERYTHING is perfect. (Thank you Captain BB😉😂) What if EVERYTHING was a sign that you're on the right path? I dont know about you, but I'm really sick and tired of making this whole life thing difficult. Who's screwed up idea was it that life and success equal struggle? I'm not down with that🤷‍♀️ Are you? An important part of my happy back / posture practice is lengthening the hip flexors (especially the psoas and fronts of the thighs). Doing so encourages my natural pattern—an anterior pelvic tilt and healthy lordotic arch—into balance. In other words, it lengthens habitually shortened tissues on the front of the body so the pelvis can balance in its neutral position, rather than tilting forward. That forward tilt can cause imbalanced posture, back pain, and compensatory patterns in other parts of the spine. There are many ways I open the hip flexors but this half #suptavirasana is particularly nice—especially this time of year! I first explored it with @alisonwestyoga and now use it regularly. Note that a folded blanket supports my torso as I ease into opening rather than force. The blanket also allows my back to lie flat, which the buttocks flesh otherwise prevents. Yep, junk in the trunk pushes the back into an exaggerated lordotic arch when I lie flat on the floor. Personalization in yoga changes everything. Grateful to Alison for teaching me that! Will stretching the fronts of the thighs help your posture and your back? It depends on your own pattern and your needs! Last night at my yoga class I talked about gratitude. This is a common discussion right now since we are approaching Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the whole holiday season in general. During meditation I challenged my yogis to pick three things they were grateful for in their own souls. Maybe it is their work ethic, discipline, patience with loved ones, kindness, their bodies, ability to cook, to paint, to sing. Whatever they found within themselves, I asked them to list and focus on three things. It's too normal to be shamed for loving yourself, and you may hear that and think "what the heck is Kelsey talking about", but think about it. We don't want to accept compliments from others, it's hard to claim ownership of hard work without playing it down, we often put down the things we love or work hard at, just so we don't sound too cocky or excited. In my opinion though, if you're not passionate, annoyingly excited, and absolutely enthralled with life and yourself, then what the heck are you doing? Learn to love yourself, for all the struggles, the bad hair days, the snorting laughs, the puffy eyes in the morning; embrace it all. I challenge you this week to not only find gratitude for the outer things; friends, family, food etc. But also for yourself. For accomplishments, for growth, for putting in work when it's really freaking hard. This is a form of self love, and it's so, so important. For me, I am grateful that I put so much energy into my yoga trainings, because it's what brings me joy and will only benefit me through life. I am grateful for my openness, because it feels natural and right. I am grateful for my body's ability to move, to feel, and I hope to preserve it. I am simply grateful to exist.
Yoga flows are very similar to the flow of events within our lives - they both have many twists and turns, flow can be fast, or slow, or still. Unexpected things can happen, painful things, we can get frustrated or angry. But that’s why we practice. We don’t step on our mats to be better at yoga, we step on our mats to be better at life. #livingroomyoga #yoga
