Day 6. The beauty of learning a pose directly from a teacher is that it comes with all that context, circumstances and experiences that you carry through the rest of your yoga journey! I remember the first afternoon of last year #julyonmaui when right after lunch @eddiemodestiniyoga told us “SUPTA VIRASANA” and kept us there AT LEAST 20 mins! I was like... what?! After lunch?!!! I never ever did yoga after meal in my life!!! And that’s on top of the fact that if your front body (read: legs and psoas) is stiff/strong, this pose could be EXTREMELY painful! I remember Eddie once said “I saw very experienced people getting in this pose and RUNNING AWAY!!!” 😂😂😂 the days kept going and it was still a painful pose. One day somewhen during week 3 I actually SNEEZED while in the pose?! Can u imagine?! My upper and lower body literally jumped off the floor like a pocket knife 😂😂😂 I thought my spine would break... well it didn’t! @jude.holland @suzefuze and @adventureswithlyme were all laughing the hell out of them while “suffering” in the pose themselves 😂😂 It took me a while during the training to figure out the appropriate height under my sitbones and under my back. But... this pose is EVERYTHING to me. It keeps my backpain away, it completely cleared my knees from knee pain, it gives me nourishment in the afternoons when I am exhausted but still have shit lots to do, it helps me to rest but brings the energy up and you can do it after meal yeah 😂😍 In fact, when I happen to have an unplanned meal and I want to do something physical after, I have 10-15 mins in Supta Virasana. This is the pose I probably have been doing EVERY SINGLE DAY since my return from Maui and I know for the fact whatever changes are happening in my body and in my practice it’s all thanks to this MAGNIFICENT pose! No wonder I start ALL my HATHA classes with it (not to the delight of my clients 😂😂😂). The block under my sitbones is already too high and I am increasingly using a book to accommodate for that! Home practice still remains my favorite way to practice. All my life I've practiced at home, alone on my mat. Even though I have the luxury of my studio's large space but I still prefer to do my practice at home. Home holds you in a different way like a mother holds a safe and caring space with her watchful eyes as the child plays in the playground. There is a feeling of safety and coziness that sips into the practice from the brickwork at home where the energy of your family and loved ones have been engrained. You take from that as you organically move from pose to pose and breathe. You also give back with the practice as you cultivate that intelligent energy during the practice. It becomes a give and take play just like a real family :) Interestingly enough this pose is called Embryo pose 😉

- Shadows, Space-time, and Physics- Remember humans are multidimensional beings. . . Relativistic physics shows we live within a 4-dimensional continuum called ‘space-time’. Space is not 3-dimensional and time is not a separate absolute entity. Both are relative. Both are fully equivalent in a simultaneous co-existence. We cannot talk about space without talking about time. So there is no time without space because of the inseparable interpenetration of space and time unified in Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. . . It makes no sense to talk about the “real” length of an object because that’s analogous to asking the real length of a shadow. Shadows (such as in the image) are projections of points in 3-dimensional space on a 2-dimensional plane. Therefore, the length of a shadow will be different relative to the different angles of projections within different frames of reference. . . Just as a shadow is a 2-dimensional projection of 3-dimensional objects, so are we humans 3-dimensional space projections of 4-dimensional space-time. We are in fact relative higher dimensional phenomenal beings. . . #YogisTakeAction Day 11: Setu Bandha Sarvangasana Variation (Bridge Leg Lifts) • • • Description: Lay down on your mat. Bend your knees one by one as you lengthen your tailbone toward your heels. Take a breath and let the back muscles settle. Press down through your feet and imagine sliding them back toward your gluts into a small wall. Meaning, isometrically pull back through your feet without actually stepping them back. This will engage your hamstrings and core. Keep your shins hips-width and start to send your breath into your upper lungs, creating movement in the shoulder girdle. Wrap your outer upper arms down into the floor, press your shoulder blades into your back, and lift your chest without collapsing your neck. Keep the curve in the neck and look straight up to the sky. Inhale and lift your hips as your reach long through the thighs and continue to pull back through the feet. Exhale as you Heel-Toe the feet a little closer together and pull your right knee in toward your chest, then inhale and reach that leg up into the air as you re-press through your left foot, lift your hips a bit, and open your chest a little more, with your hands pressing down, down, down. Exhale and draw your knee back into your chest and down to the floor. Inhale, and exhale to pull your left knee into your chest. Inhale to lift that leg in the air and exhale to bring it into your chest and down to the floor. Repeat both sides 3-5 times. You can do this with a block under your sacrum if need some low back stability. Warrior come out and playiiiyyayyyy, What is a warrior? Def: a person engaged or experienced in warfare; broadly : a person engaged in some struggle or conflict One of my favorite poses in yoga, Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II). These oils favorites as well. Key to uplifting emotions, and spirits along the way; my warrior blend. A few drops of each, applied to my head and third eye chakra, enhances my practice on many levels. Now as I look at the definition, I may not be engaged in warfare, yet the broad definition speaks to me. Opening up, being who I am can be a struggle. Connecting with my inner warrior. There is inner conflict on what to share, and what to hold back. For years I have covered the perceived weakness in my empathy, covering it with facades. Becoming the warrior means releasing the fears that hold me back, arming myself with the tools to show up to the battlefield in my mind! I will prevail, and yes these oils combined with yoga literally lift me up beyond that fight. Beyond that struggle, conflict and fear. You see, I have always had this trepidation posting my yoga journey, or posting about oils. The warrior does not shy away from the conflict, they push through it to be the victor. Yes, this is 40 and all of part of my journey. #YogisTakeAction Day 10: Virabhadrasana II - Ardha Chandrasana (Warrior 2 - Half Moon Pose) • • • Description: Stand in Tadasana (Day 1) facing the long end of your mat. Step or jump your feet 3-5 feet apart. Keep the left toes pointing forward, right foot turns out 90 degrees. Line up the right heel with the arch of the left foot. Stand up tall and ground down through all four corners of your feet. Bend your right knee and stretch your arms wide. Be sure to keep the core engaged, mid back full, and prevent the lower back from dipping. Charge up your right leg, and inhale, look forward, and lean your weight onto your right foot as you press into your right hand (which is now in front of you about 1.5 feet and slightly to your right, and maybe on a block). The left leg pops up and stretches way back as you extend your heart forward for balance between the front and back of the standing foot. Exhale and bend your standing leg, reach further through your back foot, and step lightly back into Warrior II. Be aware of your front foot - it points forward the entire time, knee facing the same direction as the second toe. Try 2 more times! Caution: may include tumbling and giggles. If you are concerned for your safety, do this vinyasa with your back to a wall.
