It seems appropriate that I am repotting some of our plant babies to give them more space to grow on the same day that a new group of teacher trainees starts their 200-hour training ❤️ 🌱 ❤️ I am so thankful for this special space and community and can’t wait for this group to start their journey together this evening ❤️

Ashtanga Yoga is a style of modern yoga created by K. Pattabhi Jois during the 20th century, often promoted as a modern-day form of classical Indian yoga. Ashtanga means eight limbs or branches of yoga mentioned in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, of which asana or physical yoga posture is merely one branch, breath or pranayama is another.

Following this, we will use an Ancient Tibetan ritual to purify and balance the three Shariras (the physical body, subtle body and mind, and consciousness)
The evening will culminate in a seated meditation where Phoebe will administer shaktipat to all attendees - a powerful transmission of spiritual energy to awaken the divine force inside all of us. You will feel energy flowing through you, taking you into an ocean of infinite bliss.

True story... I never wanted to be a yoga teacher! Hard to believe, but true. When Brian started thinking about creating a teacher training program - even before there was an Open Way Yoga I told him I’d be his test subject, that he could refine his curriculum on me. We’d been together for a while and yoga was a big deal to us as a couple, but even though Brian was a teacher I never imagined teaching yoga myself. It didn’t take long for me to catch the bug once the process had started and I never looked back! It is such a good fit for me. I’m truly thankful that I get to work with the body everyday. I love exploring the mind body connection and digging into philosophy. Thank you Brian! Thank you life! ... for knowing even better than I knew myself where I was meant to be. Pose of the week: standing splits against the wall! •
This splits variation is a great way to check-in with your range of motion without the pressure of gravity pushing your body toward the ground. •
You are in control of how deeply you drop into stretch; as you draw your pelvis toward the wall by pushing your hands into the floor. You are making the same shape as splits on the floor simply on the vertical plane instead of horizontal 😉 #yoga
Virabhadrasana III : Warrior Three - named after mythical warrior Virabhadra, said to be a fearsome incarnation of the god Shiva. This pose mirrors strength and power while also requiring lightness and ease to truly find balance. It is great for creating stability in the entire body.

(PS if you look closely you can see a 🐝(?) Land on my foot while I'm in the air and then HANG OUT on my left foot until I drop it down and practically stand on it. I had NO IDEA until I watched the video 😅 Don't worry it flew away safely afterwards and wasn't harmed!)
Tonight is my last Beginner Class in the @happyflowyoga
Placentia Studio. It's crazy to think that 6 months ago I began my teaching journey with an Open Level Vinyasa class and shortly after began teaching Beginners. I feel like I've really discovered who I am as a teacher in this space and what I strive to bring to my classes and my students. It hasn't been easy, I've encountered many bumps in the road; sequences and poses that just didn't work out right, finding creative ways to work the body in modifications, and figuring out how to manage up to 20 people (who don't always know what's going on) while demo-ing AND talking for a straight 75 mins 😅.
This transition is bittersweet. I'm sad to leave a space I know so well and I know not all my students will be able to follow me to the new studio. But I'm so excited to be in a bigger space. I'm SO excited to have room for lots of props, wall work, and 🤞🏼 a room that encourages deeper focus. This is not an ending but rather a segway from one space to the next. I welcome this change with an open heart and know that it's only going to get better from here 😊.

I M P R O V I N G YOUR CHEST FLEXIBILITY 🤘
This exercise aims to iprove chest muscle flexibility and ranges of movement in the shoulder girdle. .
Feet parallel on floor at hip width distance.
Arms to the side at shoulder height, elbows bent to 90 degrees.
From this position place the backs of the hands on the floor.
Slowly lower the knees from side to side while shoulders and hands maintain contact with the ground.
After a number of movements, try to hold the stretch position for 10 - 15 seconds
