Of late, big brave looking men keep telling me “I can’t do yoga, you see I can’t touch my toes !” Or “my hips are not made for yoga!” and I always try to assure them that the practice is far greater and broader; a personal journey where you ensure to honour Steadiness and Ease.
I fear that it’s in fact just that .... FEAR that prevents us from experiencing so much wonder. Fear of protecting what exactly? •
Our pride, ego ok yes possibly balls- care must be taken in Garudasana and a few other poses. * I’m still waiting on the traditional guides to add in special precautions for men, as they do stipulate for woman (apologies for getting sidetracked). •
Here you see these phenomenal caregivers. They openly come to yoga knowing that it’s imperative to best manage their own energetic systems, to keep themselves optimally functioning. They know that they need to take care of themselves, create more space to have more capacity and best take care of their hospitalized children. Every time I walk out into the crisp, cool air of Sacramento, I feel that much more blessed to live in this beautiful city full of trees and bright colors as we head into the winter season.
I find we often are so “go go go,” getting the next thing done in life, and then the next, and then the next. But when was the last time that you stopped for a moment, took a deep breath of fresh air and just soaked in all of the beauty that life has to offer?
This is a small little action you can take TODAY, to practice becoming a little more mindful.
Practicing being more mindful, or in a state of awareness, is a wonderful — drug free remedy to reduce stress. Mindful based practices have been consistently shown to decrease anxiety, depression, and shift ones perception of emotions, allowing them to better cope with what they may be feeling.
With that being said, I invite you all to make a commitment to yourself to one act of mindfulness, whatever that may be. Allow yourself to be aware. Life is too beautiful to move to fast all the time...

First day of #mymindmyyoga
challenge brings awareness to our mental health.
To realise what's really going on for us, we need first to slow down, connect to the body and to the breath. Today it comes very naturally to me, to meditate or get on my yoga mat and do some gentle, deep, slow practice. But it wasn't always that clear to me. Couple of years ago I also had moments when I found it very challenging to motivate myself to do anything. I know how difficult can it be to get out of the bed in the morning, to go outside, to talk to people, to pretend that you're happy when you're not. Yoga helped me a lot. One of the postures which I really love is pachimottanasama, a seated forward bend. It helps to calm down overactive limbic system, relax, release anxiety and tension. Give yourself time to slow down and stay still in this posture for a couple of minutes. A deep, slow inhale and relaxed, slow exhale. Allow your body to soften and simply observe how the mind is slowing down, as you connect more to the body and to the breath.

With a resounding yes I explained to him how I was born in a place that tried so hard to put me in boxes. To be the same as others, to stay the same as I was the year or years prior. To stifle my growth and play small, dream small, and be small. .
But here I am, expanding and growing everyday. Busting through the limiting thoughts and deciding that I am going to be big. .
I dream expansively, I play big, I am exploring the vastness that is Jenna. And I’m happy to say I finally love myself.
