"What keeps us coming back regularly to restore native habitat? Volunteers like 12 year old JayDe! At Tuesday’s Park Champions habitat restoration event in Fort Ord Dunes State Park, Jay De let slip that for his 12th birthday he wanted to do something to help the environment. So he scoured the internet for an event he could attend. When he saw that Park Champions was restoring habitat on his birthday, and that the minimum age was 12 years old, he immediately signed up with his mom to attend! JayDe shared this story while receiving an honorary Park Champions pin during our snack break. All of the volunteers attending, young and old, were impressed by Jay De’s commitment to the environment, and heartened by this young person’s enthusiasm and hard work. The prospects for our earth’s future health seem brighter knowing that there are committed young people like Jay De to protect it!"-John Salcido, Park Champions Core Leader #parkchampions#parkstewards#youthinparks#volunteerinparks
And they're off! Naturalist Explorer & River Ambassador youth are on their way to experience #Yosemite National Park with partner Community Nature Connection! "Off to an incredible journey" Elijah exclaimed, as the vans departed the #Compton & Los Angeles this morning. We'll be adding photos throughout the week to capture their first time visiting the iconic landscape during #LatinoConservationWeek and celebrating 100th anniversary of #NPS . Safe travels!
Today we were very lucky to have members of Zia Pueblo come out to @petroglyphnps ! They spoke with everyone at the event about how important the Land and Water Coalition Fund is incredibly important for preserving open spaces in New Mexico. Senator Heinrich and Congresswoman Lujan-Grisham each spoke about promoting a new bill that would help fund the coalition. Thank you everyone who helped with this event! Especially our YDI group who helped direct cars in the parking lot! #youthinparks#findyourpark#waterandland#community

Some folks from the U.S. Forest Service's Harpers Ferry Job Corps Center were in the park today. They were learning about wildland fire fighting. We asked them to stop for a photo after their training exercise was completed Thanks guys for taking the time to smile for us! #forestservice#USDA#UFS#YouthinParks (NPS Photo/Griffith) ~ahc

Students from the University of Vermont's Alternative Spring Break are back on the seashore, helping out the park while experiencing the Outer Banks. Yesterday, they collected trash from the beach at Bodie Island and saw quite a bit of wildlife--dolphins just offshore and a great horned owl perched on a window ledge of the Bodie Island Lighthouse! Today, they collected over an entire dump truck of old asphalt from the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse beach, climbed the lighthouse, and visited a shipwreck site. Tomorrow, they are off to Ocracoke for some more beach clean-up. Thanks University of Vermont Alternative Spring Breakers for your help!! 👏🙏❤️.
