So you're 30, 37, or even 40 weeks pregnant. Your provider sends you for an ultrasound, you're super excited because you haven't seen your baby in some time. You ask for a regular photo or a 3D photo and you end up with nothing or something you're not happy with.
First, do not get upset. MOST patients DO NOT get a photo. I know it's hard to believe when you see your sister, cousin, and neighbor get one. But I've been doing this for nearly 7 years and only a fraction of those people got beautiful, flawless 3D images.
And of note the special 3D/4D ultrasound shops that get those photos are PAID to ONLY get 3D/4D images and they spend A LOT of time trying to get them. We sonographers are doing a medical exam on your baby for diagnostic purposes and a picture, regular or 3D, is not in our agenda. We do it out of the kindness of our hearts IF you ask politely and IF you're baby is showing.
I am going to give you the reality of why most of the time people do not get one and if they do most of time they are not "good". Of note I should point out there are 2 different kinds of photos you could get; a regular 2D and the special all mighty, highly sought after 3D photo. Without a good 2D photo you are NOT going to get a 3D photo. If a sonographer couldn't get a 2D photo she cannot magically get a 3D instead. Doesn't work that way.
Leave in the comments down below if you got a 2D/3D photo or even a 4D video. How was your experience? Were the photos "good"? Did your baby cooperate?
Wha'ts a PELVIC exam?
Be a better patient! What should be expected of you.
Watch BEFORE your 12 week ultrasound!
