I (Poornima) have been thinking of replacing my dairy-based desserts with vegan options for when I travel and even otherwise. Most desserts I know of are made with some dairy - milk, cream, butter - and many also have egg. One dessert I really wanted to replace was ice cream.
Before I started making the shift to veganism, I had never tried sorbets. Also, most places mix sorbets with an ice cream base. I tried dairy-free sorbets at a few places, the best one being the raspberry sorbet I had at @theobromapatisserie
Mumbai on my birthday. That's when I decided to give making it at home a shot.
This is my first attempt and, although not as sweet as the ones I've had, the sorbet I made with strawberries and pineapple turned out really yum!
Now I know what to look for if I'm ever craving a dessert during my travels. If not a sorbet, a popsicle will have to do. And when not traveling, I can enjoy my sorbets at home! :D
