senior year of college, three friends and i decided to do something crazy for spring break and traveled 30 straight hours to #ZionNationalPark
, and #GrandCanyon
. i had been a few times before, but never this early in the year. it was march, and there was still snow on the tops of peaks. watching my friends see those red rocks for the first time that i hold close to my heart filled me with immeasurable joy. i’ll never forget it. we didn’t shower for a week, we played cards a lot, we made garlic bread by softening the butter on our warm stomachs, we carved ourselves into an old tree, and we bundled up in fleeces and vests to wake up for sunrises and stay out for sunsets. i was reminded of this trip today and was washed away by a flood of memories that i will always cherish.
to last month‘s group of AdventureWomen who took on the challenge of Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks – conquering fear of heights by hiking to Angels Landing and through the Narrows, canyoneering for the first time, riding ATVs, and soaking in the idyllic scenic beauty of this iconic landscape.
While in Utah, we Airbnb’d in a 1970s Airstream. This was our sunset view. Not only did this make the trip seem a little bit more unique rather than going to a fancy hotel in Springdale, but it also made it much more memorable. On the Air Dream Utah website it says “we travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.” Seeing a sky full of stars and the sun rise over the canyons was the cherry on top to an amazing mini vacation.

Fall is in the air, and in the water. #subway
A little Zion backcountry along the West Rim Trail. A few weeks and the Zion valley will have some spectacular fall colors.
Southern Utah and Southern Colorado are chock full of national parks and we are taking them all in.
Yesterday we spent the day in Zion NP. At first I felt a bit meh, another desert with reddish rocks. Then I saw more, and Zion has to be one of the most beautiful deserts there is. A sacred land for thousands of years, Zion has a feel and energy all its own. It’s lush (so much unexpected green, finally some green!!) with lots of water and vivid canyon walls of orange, white, red, & purple. I wasn’t feeling great so we opted out of the freezing water Narrows and got on a short moderate climb. Zion is the land of big walls, so we will surely be back but for now it was a great snippet. :

Been dreaming of this hike my entire life, still doesn’t feel real.
Angels Landing and portions of West Rim will be closed October23-25 for maintenance. A 4 stall toilet facility will be put into place during this time. Through hikers and backpackers will be permitted but expect long delays.
These little waterfalls are busy writing their own music.
Have you ever visited Zion in the off season? I prefer it! Cooler and less busy. Sure the trees aren’t as green but 🤷🏻♀️ I’ll take it if I can have the trails to myself!
We blasted through Zion National Park yesterday and it was so gorgeous - we can't wait to come back! Every turn of the corner brought another breathtaking view, so here's three random photos.
The Zion Narrows - 10 miles roundtrip through the Virgin River. I can honestly say Zion has been my absolute favorite place to adventure!
Toulouse's first river trip. Hims ready for fall. 🍂🐈
