Would you live here? Designed by Norm Applebaum, the architecture of “Suncatch" evokes the brilliance of Frank Lloyd Wright. Located in the prestigious area known as Rancho Santa Fe in Southern California, the project consists of 24,500 square feet of living space and a 37 car showroom beneath the house. The home is crafted from half a million board feet of Douglas fir floors, ceilings, cabinets, doors, fascia and trims. Plaster walls and poured in place concrete, using a veneer system invented by the architect, are the finish materials. . . . . . #suncatch #normapplebaum #applebaum #franklloydwright #flw #house #home #residence #materials #architizermaterials #ranchosantafe #california #architecture #instarchitecture

Libertadores House by Garza Maya Arquitectos, Chih., Mexico. This house was designed for a young married couple with one child. Since they had a limited budget and the site was also limited in space; we decided to keep things as simple as possible. The main volume floats above the terrain, supported at the front and back by single, elegant I-beam. The materials used in construction were from the area: brick and concrete were used for the walls, while the floors were crafted from recycled marble pieces. Simple, cheap construction details make this a very sustainable house compared to other more sophisticated projects. . . . . . #garzamayaarquitectos #libertadores #libertadoreshouse #mexico #house #home #residence #dwelling #concrete #brick #marble #architizermaterials #architecture #instarchitecture
Villa Vals by SeARCH Architects, Vals, Switzerland. Surprised that it was permissible to construct a pair of dwellings so close to Peter Zumthor's world famous thermal bath of Vals, the client of this unusual, subterranean residence seized the opportunity to develop the site without disturbing the baths' pristine setting. The architects effectively concealed an entire house in an Alpine slope, while still exploiting the wonderful views and allowing ample natural light to enter the building. To see images and architectural drawings of this unique project, head to architizer.com, click on the Projects tab and search for "Villa Vals". . . . . . @search_architects #searcharchitects #villavals #vals #house #villa #residence #subterranean #underground #architecture #instarchitecture #switzerland
Check out the texture on these quirky acoustic tiles by BAUX. The Swedish acoustical-coverings manufacturer continues to expand its tile offerings, allowing designers to conceive dramatic backdrops that help dampen sound. The tiles are made from BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool, an environment-friendly, recyclable material made from wood wool, cement and water. Options include rectangular planks that are perfectly sized for composing herringbone patterns, and hexes that create playful, pixelated landscapes. The tiles can be applied to walls via glue or magnets (in conjunction with thin metal sheets). . . . . . @bauxdesign #acoustictiles #acoustics #architizermaterials #pattern #interiordesign #modulardesign #colorfularchitecture #colors #architecture #instarchitecture
HAMRA house by DinellJohansson, Sweden. The brief for this summer dwelling came out of the very limited budget: the client was looking for the simplest house possible — equally simple as the barn that was to be converted into the residence. The resulting home is one that would not typically show up on the market: One open space with a large number of possible beds, cooking in the middle and washing facilities outside the house. The walls are built out of lightweight concrete masonry blocks and the roof is covered with corrugated Aluzink steel sheets, usually used on farm buildings across the region. Measurements of the building volume and openings were chosen to fit the size of the masonry blocks so the waste of material could be minimized. . . . . . @dinelljohansson #hamra #house #home #dwelling #summerhouse #simplelife #simplicity #minimalism #modern #architecture #instarchitecture #sweden
12,000 pink-painted wooden sticks by Ideo Arquitectura, Alcala de Henares, Spain. The client of this distinctive bakery in Madrid believes that every bakery should be unique; their only specific design request was the use of their corporate color, magenta. In order to achieve a contemporary design in this historic building, the designers sought an element with strong character that would compete with the consistency of the 150-year-old walls, but without eclipsing them. An artistic installation emerged: more than 12,000 wooden magenta sticks hang from the ceiling, providing an irresistible attraction to passersby. . . . . . @ideoarquitetura #ideoarquitectura #12000pinksticks #pinksticks #pink #magenta #colorfularchitecture #colors #architecture #instarchitecture #bakery #cakes #bread #architizermaterials #renovation #restoration #transformation
M4 Fővám tér station by sporaarchitects, Fővám tér, Budapest, Hungary. This atmospheric subterranean station is characterized by a dramatic, sculptural web of concrete beams that spans the void far above commuters' heads, supporting the retaining walls and forming a distinctive new public space. The station is a new multilevel city junction, a gateway to the historic downtown of Budapest. The underground space is proportional to the cross section of city streets built in the 19th century. Despite its location deep underground, the cavernous space receives natural light via uniquely designed, crystal shaped skylights. . . . . . #sporaarchitects #fovam #budapest #hungary #subway #transport #station #infrastructure #concrete #architizermaterials #architecture #instarchitecture
From model to masterpiece: Organic Farm is located on the fringe area of Guye district, Tangshan, and was designed by award-winning firm ARCHSTUDIO. The basic function of the building is to act as a processing workshop for organic food - raw materials come from organic producing areas across the country and are then collected, processed and packed here, before being delivered to other places as finished products. The design is inspired by traditional courtyard houses, with an interconnected series of interior and exterior spaces creating a self-contained workplace full of flexibility. The building was constructed using an economical lightweight wood structure, while the façade is covered with translucent polycarbonate panels which are light and easy to be install. The space, structure, materials and multilayered exterior courtyards together create a warm, natural working atmosphere for the farm. . . . Conceived by Olson Kundig as a secure and unexpected retreat nestled into a rock, The Pierre (French for stone) celebrates the materiality of this site. From certain angles, the house – with its rough materials, encompassing stone, green roof and surrounding foliage – almost disappears into nature. To set the house deep into the site, portions of the rock outcropping were excavated through machine work and handwork. The contractor used large drills to set the outline of the building, then used dynamite, hydraulic chippers, a selection of wire saws and other hand tools, working with finer and finer implements as construction progressed. Excavated rock was then re-used as crushed aggregate in the concrete flooring. . . . . . @olsonkundig #olsonkundig #tomkundig #jimolson #pierre #rock #house #home #residence #dwelling #concrete #industrialarchitecture #architizermaterials #sanjuanislands #america #americanarchitecture #usa #architecture #instarchitecture
Jungle House by StudioMK27 - Marcio Kogan, Guarujá, SP, Brazil. This luxurious contemporary getaway is located on the Paulista shore atop mountainous topography and surrounded by dense vegetation. Hidden deep within the rainforest, the design of the dwelling attempted to optimize the connection between architecture and nature, prioritizing the view out to the ocean and the admission of sunlight to the internal spaces. The architects utilized simple materials such as exposed concrete and woodfor both the interior and exterior spaces. The bedrooms are shaded with wooden sun-screens, small brises-soleil, mounted as folding doors that can be manipulated by the users according to the climatic needs. . . . . . @studiomk27 #marciokogan @mkogan27 #junglehouse #jungle #house #reisdence #dwelling #home #retreat #getaway #rainforest #forest #architecture #instarchitecture #saopaulo #guaruja #brazil @architecture_hunter
