How to prevent yourself from overeating during the holiday season? 🥑🥞🍠🍖🍍🍖 ❓🧐 This time of year is always filled with parties, feasts, drinks, and sleepless nights. When we are tired and dehydrated, our first instinct is to reach for food. Sometimes our body can’t distinguish the difference between sleep deprivation, dehydration, and real hunger. Have you noticed that most of the time when you’re tired or haven’t been drinking enough water during the day, you reach for carbs (the bad but yummy ones)? That’s because your body’s trying to obtain more calories for energy. This can be prevented by making sure you’re well rested and properly hydrated. Sip water throughout the day and take breaks as you need them. I’m not an extreme feminist, vegan, vegetarian, or anything. But I do believe in equality and advocating for those who can’t speak or fend for themselves. I love animals, because they are pure, loving, and are constantly being exploited by humans. I support women’s rights, not because we can’t speak for ourselves, but because not enough of us are standing up to fight our rights and equality. • • Did you know, as of 2017, women are still only earning 0.80 cents for every dollar a man makes? People, this is 2018, when we are implanting microchips in our hands, going on mars, and making human and pig hybrids. How is this gender gap still well and alive? • • Why is this gender gap important on a practical level, aside from ethics, human rights, and all that nonsense crap, you say? Well, for one, there are more single mothers out there who need to put food on the table and a roof over their kids’ head. 🍲🥘 • • Single family households have increased almost 3 folds from 1976 to 2014. This is in Canada alone, and the number is more dramatic in the US. 81% of these households are supported by single mothers, despite the steady increase of single- father households. My point is that, women tend to bear more responsibilities, tend to do more for their families, but also receive less in monetary support from society. • • Women are not better than men, but are equal to men. A partnership in all relationship types should be equal and each partner should feel supported by each other. 👫 • • My dear friend @amandaa_tam ❤️ recently introduced me to @bumble @bumble_canada 🐝 in support of women’s voice and our cohesion. Having an equal partnership doesn’t only apply in romantic relationships, but also in friendship and in business. 🌵Okra for the win! This little vegetable has been consumed in Asia and Africa for hundreds of years. It recently made its way to the Western world and of course, brought its benefits as well. It has a slim when raw, but tends to be less slimy when cooked. Its vitamin and mineral profile is impressive and should not be overlooked. The slim may take away a bit of your appetite, but is a key part in how this little vegetable improves your digestion. 🌱 It is baked here in a toaster oven. They cook fast and shrivel fast. Autumn is a season for transition and reflection…🍂🍁 🌲 Summer is filled with activities/ movement and winter usually leads to a gradual slow down of those things and passively encourage people to hibernate and cozy up. 📓🖋 Autumn is a good opportunity  to sit down and reflect on the events during the summer and the changes we have made in the last few months. What is the meaning of life without reflection or having a sense of direction? With the rain and gloom, we have a chance to quiet down with a warm drink and cuddle up with a book or a journal. 🌬💨 Reflection provides us with the tools for growth and understanding what is important to us. When we are preoccupied with activities, events, and what we call “life”, we often forget to breathe and listen to that inner voice. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Sit down and ask yourself “what would I do today if today was my last?”. Who would you want to call/ talk to, what would you want to do, and what moments would you savor. How would you treat your family, friends, and even strangers, if today was your last? ❤️ If you need some inspiration to live your life to the fullest and stop wasting time on meaningless and societal ingrained “should be”s, then I definitely recommend Robin Sharma’s The Monk who Sold his Ferrari. It’s an oldie, but a goodie. What do you do to start your day in a positive way? Do you have a morning routine? But things like temperature and the environment are a lot harder to change. Winter’s here, for the Northern hemisphere at least🌎. It’s been exceptionally cold this year and the gloom is making everyone... gloomy. I love coffee, but I feel that I’ve been needing something a little stronger but gentler at the same time. And this is when I discovered @toromatcha. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it. Matcha 🍵contains more antioxidants and caffeine than your average cup of green tea. It gives you that energy boost without the crash or the bad breath (just admit it, all coffee drinkers have it!). As much as I love to travel, it pains me to think about how much more waste traveling creates ✈️ 🗽 ⛩ Recently, a video went viral on Facebook. The camera focuses in on a fit woman paddling through the clear turquoise water of the Maldives on a stand-up paddle-board. All of a sudden, you see an island made of plastic wastes approaching. She paddles through the plastic island, then finally grabs her board and begins to walk on the “island”, picking up different disposed items and containers. She walks up mountains of plastic. The piles are so dense, they don’t even crumble with the weight of a human. The camera then zooms out, she becomes smaller and smaller, finally blending in with the rest of the plastics. 🌎 This is just a small portion of the Maldives. There are plastic islands forming everywhere on this planet. It takes the planet centuries to break down and only takes a little bit of awareness to reduce. So please, carry reusable water bottles, coffee cups, bags, and choose environmentally friendly hotels when you travel. 🌍 We don’t have another planet. If the planet dies, we all die with it. And when we do take that last breath, we won’t be able to take our money, clothes, house, or anything with us. We come alone, we will die alone.
