We’re facing shorter days and longer nights 🌙 More darkness and colder weathers. ☁️🌧 Yes, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a real thing. That’s why those who live in gloomy cities (e.g. London, Vancouver, etc.) are more moody and have a greater chance of struggling with mental health issues. 💦☔️ Since we are on the topic of mental health, there are some things I would like to address. Around 20% of adults, that’s 1 in 5 adults, suffer from mental health issues annually. But because mental health is still such a touchy subject, many are afraid to seek help or don’t feel the need to seek help. It is so hard to diagnose mental health conditions, because it’s not touchable or examinable in many ways. But this is not an excuse for us to forget its importance and focus solely on physical conditions. ✖️ ✖️ A broken leg calls for a sick day, so does anxiety and depression. It can’t be seen or touched, but it can be felt by those who experience it. In traditional Chinese medicine, the spleen (yes, we have a spleen) is responsible for transforming and transporting newly ingested food by working with the stomach. The spleen likes warm foods, and hate cold. This includes cold foods, raw foods, drinks and environment. It also dislikes dampness, places like basements is an example of dampness, dairy products are examples of damp foods. Keeping the spleen happy allows proper digestion, absorption, and vitality. In both western and eastern medicine, consuming raw and cold foods take a toll on the body. Found these baby zucchini at the farmer’s market and they are packed with flavor! Oh boy, are they feisty little things 🙊 It was actually my first time seeing and obviously tasting baby zucchini. I mostly got them because Italians stuff the flower part all the time in their traditional dishes. So I brought them home and gave it a try. 🥒 Here’s what I used in the stuffing: ✖️quinoa ✖️flax egg ✖️crumbled tofu ✖️green onion ✖️garlic ✖️chili pepper ✖️salt and pepper You might also be wondering what the white stuff are... they are actually palm hearts. They are also usually made by hand or produced in small batches instead of in masses 💛 3️⃣ you know where they came from and where they’ve been- no child Labour, no slaves, no outsourcing to developing countries for cheap labour 👫 4️⃣ connection with the food you eat and the objects you use- all things carry energy and vibrational potentials. Connecting with the positive, with the growers and the makers when you visit the market or business, by allowing the owners to share their passion and love for what they do 💝 5️⃣ IN- SEASON fruits and vegetables- this one probably provides the most incentive to a lot of people who want to become healthier.
