Yeah I'm talkin to you.
Please use this guide accordingly.
-It's good manners
-Start off being polite to someone you want to do business with
-Acknowledge that you're dealing with real people on the internet
Don't demand anything. Ask
-People are busy doing lots of other stuff, you're sliding in the dms tryna get something for yourself. It better worthwhile for them. Sometimes that just means helping a good person out.
-People don't have to do anything for you, so consider it a unique opportunity if they do so, and show some gratitude, whether or not it works out all the way.
Say thank you often.
-Understand that they don't know you, why should they work with you?
You have to build some trust
-People in the industry have spent time on their reputation, it's important to them.
-You're coming in on the back end of those relationships, they gotta know
you wont be rude, impolite, or self-serving when they put you in the same room as the creative director for nike, or gap.
-Don't try cut out any middlemen or middlewomen because they will both cut you out. Because if you'll stab someone in the back who gave you an opportunity, then you'll always do that and ultimately that's going to reflect on the person who referred you.
Don't ask anyone to do anything for you if you're not following them.
It costs you nothing, and clearly you don't think the work is compelling enough if you're not following them. Follow them, like some of their posts...legitimately. Show some interest, don't just try to get something out of it. Be genuine.
