NSW has been named Australia’s premier destination for major events, last night receiving the award for Best Event State at the Australian Event Awards. Australia’s largest event, Vivid Sydney was awarded Best Tourism Event and Best Cultural, Arts or Music Event, and Vivid Sydney Creative Director Ignatius Jones was honoured for his stellar major events career as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. The NSW Government today released a $6 million Regional Conferencing Strategy & Action Plan aimed at driving more business events and visitors to rural and regional NSW. The Strategy & Action Plan includes 11 strategic imperatives and 64 actions including the establishment of a Destination NSW Regional Conferencing Unit, a website portal called 'Meet in Regional NSW', a NSW Regional Conferencing Toolkit and a Regional Conferencing Development Grants Pilot Program with $500,000 available between 2017 and 2018.
