Often Canadians feel like their vote doesn't matter. When they vote, they don't see results in terms of who gets elected. When parties earn less than 40% of the vote but still end up with 100% of the power it shows that their voice really doesn't matter. We can change that. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Proportional representation means if you get 30% of the vote - you get 30% of the seats in parliament. It means your vote counts and your voice is reflected in the parliament or legislature that makes the decisions impacting your daily life. It means more power for the people and a government that actually works for you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Justin Trudeau committed to change our electoral system to make it fairer for people. When he got in power he realized it wasn't in his party's interest to make the change, so he walked back on his word. That's just plain wrong. Decisions should be made in the interest of people, not parties. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today In Victoria (BC) we made it clear - we believe in fixing our voting system and we will get it done. We believe in proportional representation because it gives more power to the people of Canada. Its exactly what our democracy needs. Now more than ever.

Looking forward to being back in Burnaby next week and connecting with people who need solutions to the big problems they face in their daily lives. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Not too long ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with young people in Burnaby to talk about life and some of the challenges they’re facing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The resounding feeling that I got from them was a sense of disappointment and worry about the future. This really stood out to me, because young people should be filled with hope for the future, not fear. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We talked about electoral reform and making every single vote count on election day – we talked about housing affordability and how young people have no hope of owning a place to call their home. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It doesn’t have to be like this. We are determined to keep fighting for the solutions people need right now, and to make a real difference for more people. 📷 @bersonphoto.jpg
I can do this with my eyes closed 🙈😂 . But in all seriousness, it's an incredible honour that I get to meet people who want to improve peoples' lives almost everyday . These good folks represent the Canadian Credit Union Association . Credit Unions offer services like traditional banks. You can open up an account, apply for a mortgage or a business loan . But what makes them special is that when you open up an account you become a member and every member is an owner. They are cooperatives. Each person has an equal say in how the credit union runs . They also have a mission statement to improve the economic, social and environmental well being of their members. So money left over at the end of the year is reinvested back to their members or into community initiatives . In case it wasn't obvious I'm a big fan of Credit Unions and the positive impact they have on communities . 🇨🇦 .
They took care of us now it's time for us to take care of them ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today was a victory for Canadian Veterans and their families! Our motion which passed today in the House of Commons, will ensure the money promised to Veterans actually gets spent on improving access to the services they need and deserve ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🇨🇦 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Les anciens combattants du Canada ont veillé sur nous – prenons soin d’eux en retour ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ L’adoption de la motion du NPD est aujourd'hui une victoire pour eux, afin que les montants budgétés soient dépensés pour améliorer les services dont ils ont besoin
Today we join with International human rights organizations in marking the 34th anniversary of the 1984 #SikhGenocide . We honour the victims, survivors and their families in recognizing that truth-telling is necessary for healing & reconciling the inter-generational trauma that lives on. See full statement with link in bio.
Every community in Canada has the right to be heard and represented in Ottawa. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Prime Minister Trudeau has called one by-election, but refuses to call the election for other vacant seats - this isn’t doing what’s right for the people in these communities. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was in Outremont QC recently with our incredible candidate, Julia Sánchez, and I saw firsthand the problems that people in that community need addressed right now – they can’t wait for Trudeau to decide when it’s politically expedient for him to call their by-election. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The same goes for the people in York-Simcoe and Burnaby South – we need to do what’s right for people in these communities and call the by-elections right now.
Trump’s illegal tariffs on aluminum and steel are still on the table – and the livelihood of thousands of Canadian workers is on the line. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today I was joined by the United Steelworkers of Canada to urge Prime Minister Trudeau to not sign the new USMCA trade deal until these tariffs are lifted. #polcan
