🖼🧐 Pictures Worth a Thousand 🧐🖼 I have to tip my hat - 🎩 - to the playwright, the poet, who famously obsessed over a comma, the dandy, the man about town, the novelist, Oscar Wilde. Today is his birthday! And if you want a crazy story, just look at his life.
This is the first book of his I've read. I am about halfway through and we have just gotten to something curious. It is mostly, up until this point, all about who is dining with whom, and which theater to go to. But what else does one do when you have no occupation? Those Victorians.
I am finding, of course, the usual societal visions of women (from the male perspective) are a bit annoying and cliche. But remembering, quickly, that this is the fount from which those cliches sprung. Soldiering on.
I am thankful to @coffeecoffeecat
for bringing to my attention the readalong of this. I went to the library to get a copy, and then found I owned this one! (After just eyeing it at Barnes & Noble and almost buying it. Again.) It is such a pleasure to read this nice edition. And I'm excited to have folks to discuss it with, too!
So if you've read the pithy quotes, and heard about The Importance of Being Earnest, or maybe seen Dorian Gray in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, I urge you to try something full length.
And for more details, per usual, visit @theisleofapples
to read her tribute!
Happy Birthday, Oscar! 🎂
