“This dress originally worn by @Cturlington always reminds me of the evening I first won a CFDA for the Grunge Collection in 1993 (despite being fired from Perry Ellis because of it). Christy was my date that night and Tatum O’Neal presented me with the award. Seen here on @LiliSumner for our #ReduxGrunge .” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @LiliSumner photographed by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @CTurlington in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. “Worn here by Gigi, my mix of cat in the hat stripes continues to have the kind of graphic impact that I still love today.” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @GigiHadid by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @GailElliottOfficial in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. “The wrap dress/30’s style dressing gown was one of my favorite shapes. We cut this shape in everything from the fruit prints to guipure lace…” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @LilyMcMenamy photographed by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @Naomi in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. “Creating noise by mixing prints and patterns was as close as I could get to making music that got heard. Originally worn by @GailElliottOfficial is seen here by @SuziLeenaars for our #ReduxGrunge collection.” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @SuziLeenaars photographed by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @GailElliottOfficial in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. “Bi-colored 70’s baseball jerseys have always been one of my favorite styles. This one, worn originally by Yasmeen Ghauri was in a stretch jersey in very luminous pastel color combinations. @HannahElyseBarberCruz is here in our #ReduxGrunge photographed by Juergen Teller.” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @HannahElyseBarberCruz photographed by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: Yasmeen Ghauri in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. “One of my favorite toned-down, low-key-casual looks was originally worn by @CeciliaChancellor in the 1993 Grunge Collection. I thought there was nothing cooler than an awkward, dowdy length skirt worn like a slouchy pair of pants as seen here on @TaleaJosephine for our #ReduxGrunge .” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @TaleaJosephine photographed by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @CeciliaChancellor in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. Hair by @OribeCanales , Makeup by Kevyn Aucoin.
“One of the more casual, “thrown together” looks in the grunge show was a 70’s style suede jacket over a boys plaid shirt over a girls crocheted vest and a pair of fruit print shorts. It was originally worn by Carla Bruni in the grunge collection and brought back for redux as worn by Adut with that attitude I love so much.” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @AdutAkech photographed by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @CarlaBruniOfficial in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. “The bride in the grunge show was Kate Moss. She wore a shrunken white dinner jacket and a beaded version of Robert Crumb’s “keep on trucking” t-shirt over a bias plaid slip with custard color patent leather Dr. Martens boots. Here it is worn by Coco Gordon Moore, whom I have known since she was a baby.” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @Cocogm photographed by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @KateMossAgency in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. Hair by @OribeCanales , Makeup by Kevyn Aucoin.
“The most sober and simple look in the grunge show was also one of my favorites. It was a black wool slip dress worn with a chain diagonally across the body and a nose ring. It was inspired by an image of Patti Smith and worn by my friend Yasmin Le Bon in the original grunge collection. Here it is looking completely contemporary and modern on Binx Walton.” - @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @BinxWalton photographed by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @YasminLeBon in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. “An inside out, exposed seam, elongated black t shirt dress on Lily was originally worn by supermodel Nadja Auermann. Lily’s mom, Kristen wore another variation with the “slash” at the midriff and Naomi Campbell wore the version with the “slash” above the bum.” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @LilyMcMenamy by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @Nadja_Auermann in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. Hair by @OribeCanales , Makeup by Kevyn Aucoin.
“The look worn here by Nika Riam was the opening look on beautiful Christy Turlington in the original grunge collection. She stomped out on the runway to the sound of L7’s “Pretend We’re Dead.”” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @Nikoriam photographed by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @CTurlington in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show. “I remember so clearly the day of this dress fitting back in 1992. I put this dress in its original longer version on Carla Bruni and immediately realized something wasn’t quite right. It was too long. @CarlyneCerfdeDudzeele had stopped by the studio and was sitting in on some of the fittings. I looked over to her and said, “I think this dress should be a lot shorter for Carla.” I grabbed a pair of giant scissors and gestured in a cutting motion, “do you think this short..? This short..? THIS short?” Carlyne shouted back, “just cut the dress!” So with my giant pair of scissors I roughly cut the dress into a mini dress that was so short it almost become a top. Unlike the sauciness Carla originally gave in this look, seen here on @DreeLouiseHemingway it takes on a whole new coolness and personality for our #ReduxGrunge .” – @TheMarcJacobs — Picture 1: @DreeLouiseHemingway by Juergen Teller for #ReduxGrunge Picture 2: @CarlaBruniOfficial in the @PerryEllis Spring 1993 Grunge show.
