Thanks to Dennis for the photo of the balloon launch this morning! He will be riding in a balloon soon and sharing some Birdseye views of the festival! #balloonfiesta2016 🎈🎈
Dennis, Alexa, and their balloon pilot Mark Fritze are standing next to the balloon they will be riding in soon! Thankfully, the weather was perfect for ballooning this morning! #FindYourPark #BalloonFiesta2016 #NewMexico
This is a photo from the 2013 #BalloonFiesta . Keep an eye out for some of the same balloons! For many balloonists this is an annual event. #Albuquerque #NewMexico
If you are heading to the #BalloonFiesta check out the #FindYourPark banner! Every year Albuquerque doubles in size during the festival and the Monument certainly sees an increase in visitation!! #NewMexico #Albuquerque #Balloons
Katy from the YMCA was nice enough to get us a cake to celebrate the #centennial of the Park Service! #NPS100 #cake #celebration
Since the monsoons have hit us, we are seeing more #hummingbirds enjoying the new growth of #flowers in #Albuquerque . Several species of hummingbirds are native to #NewMexico . Keep an eye out while hiking to see these beautiful, delicate birds. #nature #pretty #beautiful
The macaw #petroglyph is one of the most famous petroglyphs in the monument. Not only is it unique and beautiful it also represents the great and varied amount of trade between the peoples of the Southwest and the peoples of Mexico. #rock art #Albuquerque #culture #art #archaeology #NewMexico
The monsoons have officially started in #Albuqueruqe ! The Monument has been getting some good rain and the river looks nice and high! #rain #landscapes
Handprint and anthropomorphic (human-like) petroglyphs are found together on this boulder in the Monument. In total there are over 24,000 #petroglyphs in our National Monument! #NewMexico #Albuquerque #rockart #NationalPark
Buzzards and other scavengers are an essential part of any ecosystem. This photo was taken in Rinconada Canyon on the Westside of #Albuquerque . Photo credit to employee James Ritter. #birds #scavengers #bluesky #animal #nature #NewMexico
Animal #petroglyphs are some of the most common images found in the monument. Birds, lizards, deer, and even mountain lion carvings are found in all parts of Petroglyph National Monument. What do you think these particular images represent? #culture #newmexico #albuquerque #art
Nest update! There's a new egg!! I haven't seen any of the parent birds lately but it has been a lot warmer so they may be avoiding people while we are busy during the day. I wonder how many chicks we will end up having this year? #nest #eggs #nature #spring
The birds are back this year!!! Looks like we will have some chicks in the head quarters arrowhead again. It's always good practice to leave baby birds alone. If you find a nestling just put it back into its nest and leave fledglings where they are! #eggs #nest #nature #birds #albuquerque
Feel free to celebrate #EarthDay at the monument! This is a picture of the volcano trail system on the western edge of #Albuquerque . It's looking like a beautiful day to #hike and enjoy the #nature that surrounds the city! #newmexico #bluesky #volcano
Happy #EarthDay ! We have numerous species of wildlife in the monument. Because we are an urban park we provide much needed living space for coyotes, rabbits, lizards, birds, and other native #NewMexico species! #jackrabbit #nature #urban #albuquerque
Handprints may be the most prevalent petroglyphs in the park but we also have a number of footprints! Like the ones seen on this boulder on the Piedras Mercadas Canyon hike. The Hopi people call petroglyphs and archaeological sites the footprints of their ancestors. In this case it's very literal. #petroglyphnationalmonument #rockart #petroglyphs #newmexico #culture
There's a blanket of fog over the central part of #Albuquerque near the river. It was very cold last night but it's bright and sunny today. #fog #mountains #newmexico #clouds
