"...Gnoman wondered vaguely how long he'd be able to go on like that. He tried desperately to get warmer, rubbing his shoulders and walking as fast as he could, but to little result. His feeble clothes were no help at all and he thought his very heart would soon freeze inside him, too cold to beat, and he would drop dead.
All there was to see was the endless expanse of the snow covered forest: bare, empty and heartlessly cold. And still he walked on..."
Approaching the finish line of the Gnoman book feels like👆
Crazy how many unexpected difficulties and tasks keep appearing. As soon as we deal with one, three more pop up. But we're still loving every second of it 🙏
Everything is more fun when you can share it. Creating a book included😉
are super lucky to have each other on this journey. It has been an amazing experience that taught us a lot both about ourselves and creativity.
You wouldn't believe how much fun bouncing around ideas can be💭! The original narrative by @drawoutyourlife
was changed and developed so much during long coffee talks that it is now a completely different story📙
And of course, the support, guidance and inspiration have been priceless.
Working on an independent project can be horrifying, but we know that together we can pull anything through ✊
Have you ever worked to create something with your soul mate?
Exited to be taking these last few steps towards finishing the book 📘. Feeling just like Gnoman himself in this illustration: a bit lost and not knowing exactly where we'll end up.
But the journey itself is a lot of fun and that's what's important 🙏
The first draft of @thegnoman
book is finished 🎉🎊🍷! I couldn't be more excited and happy, that feeling of putting in the last period was quite magical✨
Next up is heaps of editing, proof reading and spell checking 📝. But the book is now one big step closer to fulfilling it's purpose: being read by you ❤
Though our book is a fairy tale, it will take the reader to some pretty dark places. On his journey Gnoman will be facing his fears and confronting the unknown, but he'll end up getting... well, whether he gets anything in the end remains to be seen.
What is it that you fear most?
One name, one hat, but such different characters.
The Gnoman on the picture appeared about a year ago as a character in a series of comics. Looking back, he went a very long way to become what he is today both in appearance and character. He's now more inwards oriented and not as whiny as before (like on this picture 😅). He lives in a different place. Does different art. Wears a different clothes.
But without this little grumpy man there would be no Gnoman as we see him now. It's quite curious how characters sometimes come to life and take their development out of creator's hands. Gnoman grew and changed in ways we could never have predicted, stories sprouted around him and we kept discovering new in him.
What kind of art/craft do you think Gnoman makes? Attentive ones we'll have seen clues in the earlier paintings 😋
"...The trees seemed to be crowding in, becoming thicker and slowing Gnoman down more and more the longer he walked. He had to exercise great care not to trip over the many twisted roots that hardly left any solid ground. To Gnoman they seemed like gaping maws opening from the depths of the Earth to swallow him..."
Getting deeper into the story and loving every step of this journey 🌲
"...After a few minutes Gnoman found himself on the edge of a small dried out lake nestled in the thicket of the forest.
The trees crowded in around it so tightly, it seemed the mere lack of space and air had dried the poor thing out. The lake’s bare bottom was hollow, slightly sandy and uneven, and in the middle of it sat a little wooden boat..."
Had a lot of fun writing this part of the book, and the illustration hit the mood perfectly 😌🍁
Meet the other half of Gnoman project: me! Katya Dixon aka @katyacreates
. I'm writing Gnoman's story and also take charge of writing stuff on here 👅
I've played around with a lot of creative fields in my lifetime from modeling to calligraphy, but the constant thread has been photography and writing📷✒
I love life and the world around me so much the beauty of it overwhelms me sometimes. And I constantly feel the itch to share that vision with people by means of my work: be it a photo or a book.
Inspired by nature and ever curious, I'm super excited to be a part of Gnoman's story and can't wait to share it with you!✨
We talked about who Gnoman is in our last video and now it’s time to show, who we are. Meet the authors!
The originator and one half of the Gnoman project is Lewis Dixon @drawoutyourlife
. He had the original idea for Gnoman story and is creating the captivating illustrations for the book📙
Lewis is Australian, but hasn’t lived there for many years, preferring life of an eternal traveler and vagabond🚞
He’s a self-taught artist with so much love for his art you could fuel the whole planet with it 🌎😄.
Originally he worked traditionally, but a present of digital tablet has turned his life around. Ever since he’s been passionately exploring what digital technology has to offer, but he can still be spotted holding a brush or pencils✏
Attention to detail, deep love for what he does and a mind always open and curious define his work and his self.
Come over to his page say hello 😊☀
Trying to answer the question "Who is Gnoman?" #gnoman
"The market was festive and rich and buzzed with excitement. All around the village square rough wooden tables were laidened with beautiful homegrown vegetables. Big buckets of forest berries, wide displays of fat orange pumpkins, straw baskets full to the brim with fragrant mushrooms"
Writing about it makes me miss the local farmers markets so much. Can't wait for the new season to begin and to stroll once again through rows of neat homegrown goodies ❤
Doing some research for the book 📝
Legends, myths and traditions have always fascinated us. They are the mirror that shows values, character and true soul of a country.
Living in Belarus now it is our wish to plunge into its culture, share its tales and its voice through something completely new. To morph old legends into surreal story twists and weave a newborn narrative into folklore tales.
Belarus is a charming little country in Eastern Europe with lots of woods, fields and rivers. There is a special kind of calmness about its quiet beauty. It never shouts, it whispers. And sometimes it takes patience and attention to hear that quiet voice. We love exploring this beauty, diving deep into it, breathing with it. And we hope it captivates our readers as much as it does us 🙏
Gnoman is a fictional character created by about a year ago and shelved, not quite having a home to go to. Picked up again at the start of this year by his creator @drawoutyourlife
Gnoman was developed with the help of @katyacreates
growing with time until he became who he is now: a skinny boy with a passion and curiosity for the world 🌳. Like his creators he creates, explores, enjoys and fears in equal measure.
Is he one of a kind? He lives in a world surrounded by animals and has never met anyone like himsef. Not really knowing who he is, he's on the path of finding it out. And so are we.
"Heart hammering in his throat, Gnoman ran as fast as his legs would carry him. The bully gave chase. Gnoman could hear the Crow’s coarse voice screaming insults right behind him, even felt a sharp end of a wing crash against his leg. The sensation caused a new wave of panic and Gnoman sped up..."
'Like anyone else, who has ever known passion, Gnoman sometimes forgets time. Lost in creating and speculating, he can spend a whole night over a crafting table in search of perfection"
We too can forget to eat or rest working on this tale, becoming absorbed by this world. A world where a Gnoman sits by candlelight right now, busy with creations of his own.
Because after all, what we create always mirrors who we are.
