Mondays are for office work aka CEO time. As a person that's normally moving around and interacting with people, I struggle to sit still and focus at the computer. --- I've been taking CBD (Cannabidiol) at night for better sleep for months but now i'm experimenting with adding it to my morning @bulletproof coffee. Whenever I'm in an airport, I think of @jockowillink 's words I heard on one of his podcasts when they were discussing staying healthy while traveling. The pic on the left was my Google photo memory from today! Little baby guy was 5 months old and I was about to embark on putting the pieces back together after surrendering control of my body (and my brain ๐Ÿคฏ) for the year or more it takes to make and care for a new human. . Almost 2 years ago now I started down the path of a keto diet, taking care of myself by greatly reducing sugar/carbs, and focusing on animal protein and fat. I also prioritized sleep, reduced my work schedule, worked out a bit, and focused on quality relationships with the right people in my life! Took our city dwelling kids out exploring in the mountains the other day. It was so interesting to watch the 2 year old in this natural environment. His eyes got wide and it was as if a new part of his brain switched on. His DNA was like, I need my clothes off and I need to sit here in this river and bang these rocks together! Instant little caveman ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ He was SO into throwing stones, climbing the big rocks, and exploring the jungle. Our DNA comes pre-programmed with all kinds of robust survival mechanisms we can tap into with the right behaviors. Eating, fasting, sleeping, sprinting, lifting, meditating, heat/cold exposure, being in nature, and bonding to other human beings are all tools we can still use in our modern world to switch on programs for anabolism, immunity, autophagy, ketogenesis, lipolysis, serotonin production, and so much more. I made my own Near Infrared Sauna in my bathroom! . Saunas are well known to aid the repair and recovery process and Near Infrared Light has a bunch of supposed health benefits too. I was curious to try but unwilling to fork over thousands of dollars for a home set up. So I jerryrigged my own version with a couple hundred bucks worth of stuff from @amazon ! . โœ…A shoe rack โœ… 3 high wattage clamp lamps โœ… 3 NIR TheraBulbs . I took these Pigs in a Blanket to a holiday party at my neighbor's on the weekend. A fan favorite for kids and grown ups alike! I use the classic fat head dough recipe (Google that if you don't know it) and wrap up BBQ'd costco weiners. I had a DEXA scan last month to get the most accurate possible assessment of my body composition (link to the video of my results is in my bio โ˜๏ธ). . Even at a below normal percentage of bodyfat, I still have a healthy 24lbs of fat on board. That's 84,000 cals of stored energy! On the other hand, I have at most maybe 2000 cals of energy in stored carbohydrate (aka glycogen). . "Fat Adapted" is a very trendy term these days, but all it really means is teaching your body to run off the big fuel tank rather than the little one. The little tank has a purpose, but it runs low really quick! If you only use the little tank, you're always a few short hours away from disaster. Crashing in your workout is one problem for sure but experiencing dizziness/shakiness, or biting the head off of anyone nearby because you're so HANGRY are real life "bonking" problems too. What a stressful way to live! . . โš ๏ธControversial post alert โš ๏ธ Sometimes I use actual sugar when I cook! ๐Ÿ˜ That's damn near heresy in the crazy keto world. . Here I'm adding 1 TB of brown sugar to the marinade for tonight's korean beef tacos (the recipe called for 4x that much!). This adds 12g of sugar to a recipe for 6, for a total of 2g per serving. I just haven't found 2g to be a 'make or break it' significant amount! Especially when mixed into a meal otherwise comprised of meat, fat, and veggies. . I've tried lots of the low carb and non caloric sweeteners and I cannot get past the weird taste. I'd rather strategically use small amounts of the real thing (brown sugar, maple syrup, balsamic vinegar) and have my taste buds associate the taste of sweet with actual sugar coming in. . But hey, that's just me! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธMaybe you make different choices and that's totally fine. We're allowed to do different things ๐Ÿ˜ . #stillketo
