Ventura Land Trust
Preserving Ventura's hillsides, trails, water and wildlife for the benefit of present and future generations.
Spotted at Big Rock Preserve, this Western Pond Turtle is a threatened species and endemic to the West Coast of the United States and Mexico. This is the first time we have seen one at Big Rock since the Thomas Fire! Cool fact about the Western Pond Turtle - it can spend up to 200 days out of water, since the streams and ponds it inhabits often go dry in the warm season. If you see a Western Pond Turtle at Big Rock, please leave it be. #venturalandtrust #nonprofit #conservation #threatenedspecies #westernpondturtle #bigrockpreserve
