One of my favorite winter scenes are the ponderosa pines surrounded by snow. I love the color of the bark and how the snow really accentuates that!
We woke up to freezing fog this morning. Although not quite as bad as it was last year when this was taken, it does makes for some really incredible photos of trees! I almost prefer snow to freezing fog. For some reason this just feels colder. Do you agree?
Our local waterfall may not look as green and lush as many but it’s still a beautiful waterfall in the high desert. #waterfallwednesday
Walking through giant marshmallows last year at this time. Wonder what this winter will bring?
Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.
It’s the time of year when you’re fingers and toes freeze so you can get amazing sunrises or sunsets. So worth a few minutes of being numb, don’t you think?
Looking back on the few photos I took from our marathon road trip to pick up Benham. The drive there was freeways in the pouring rain but we had this brief sunset with the windmills in the distance. The drive home was along Hwy. 395 which parallels the Eastern Sierra mountains. At one point I was trying so hard to see Mt. Whitney but it was not yet daylight. I can’t wait to drive that highway again in the daylight preferably when the road is open and then we can take a side trip to Yosemite. It’s so exciting to get out a map and plan a future road trip!
I’m sure you’ll all be happy to know that now that we bought a snow blower we’ll have a very mild winter. You can thank me later. 😂
The great thing about rescuing a mutt is that you don’t really know what kind of dog you’re getting. It’s fun to try and guess the breed and wonder how big the dog may get. Most larger black dogs are called part lab. Most brown dogs are said to be shepherd mix. When I tried the oral DNA swab test with Daisy, it came back mostly Yorkie. 😂 which is hilarious because she’s 65 pounds. It will be interesting to see how big Benham will get. Whatever he is, he will be safe and loved and in his forever home.
I believe the flow of this waterfall has increased since they removed the dam and hydroelectric plant. It’s very disappointing to see graffiti on the rocks around here though. I just don’t understand the reasoning of having to mark a place where you’ve been. Take a picture but please don’t mark up nature. Rocks in the wild are not meant to be painted.
We rescued this sweet puppy and he is now a part of our family. He was found wandering the streets full of bullheads and terrified. I’m a little embarrassed to admit how far we drove to pick this cute little guy up. Let’s just say we’ve never driven that many hours in one day. I found him online and saw that face and knew. Thankfully he’s also very sweet and very smart. He made that long car ride like such a trooper! We’re still working on a name. I want it to fit his personality but I don’t want a super common name. He’s now an Oregon dog and ready for adventures! Daisy is acting indifferent but very patient. She’ll chase the stick and he’ll chase her. It works for now. I hope you’re prepared to see adorable puppy adventures on my feed. I’m sure he’ll make you smile! Remember to rescue! There are so many dogs that need homes. #adoptdontshop
Because when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing. ~Dr. Seuss
It was nice to get out for a walk along one of our favorite rivers. #optoutside
We’ll be headed somewhere today that does not have anything to do with Black Friday! #optoutside
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Melody Beattie
We were waiting for more but were happy with what we got.
Our beautiful day at the beach...
Battery Russell was built in 1904 but was not fully manned until after Pearl Harbor. In 1942 they hastily constructed the housing in a wooded area behind the dunes and called it “Squirrelsville”. They say a soldier still patrols the grounds. Daisy wouldn’t go in this room with us. What do you think she is looking at? 👻
