Happy Thursday friends. The weekend is almost here. Each passing day feels difficult but I keep checking things off my list and that definitely makes me less stressed. I am also sticking to a routine which also keeps my stress levels down. Happy Monday Friends! I hope everyone is doing well. It is hard to believe this is already the 2nd week of December. Time is flying by. ๐ŸŽ„ I managed today to get my run and Christmas Challenge in early. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ My run was 40 minutes @ 7:04 min/mile pace. It was hard! I really wanted to quit but I just broke up the 40 minutes into 5 minute thoughts. Before I knew it I hit 40 minutes and it was time to cool down. . . Today no filters on my pictures. My run picture was taken immediately after and I was sweating like a pig. Lol. If swipe to 2nd picture that is shortly afterwards when I did my Christmas Challenge workout. I am laughing to my son trying to tell him that in theory it seemed like a great idea to run first but that challenge seemed so much harder after todayโ€™s run ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Several people have asked if I have a race for next year. Hello friends!! How are you all doing today? We made it through another week and year end is coming near. Thank you to many of you for helping me get through a tough week. I really appreciate it. I have a busy weekend ahead so today I decided my long run would be only 80 minutes. I decided though to take my easy run and at the 50 minute mark I did a 20 minute tempo. It felt good. Hello friends I hope you are all having a great week. Mine has been difficult but I have stayed consistent with my runs and Christmas Challenge. My workouts help me deal with the challenges of life. I am the Energizer Bunny and keep going and going until โ€”- I spent 4 days working to get the main tree up. What a weight off my shoulders to have it done. ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ„ This tree has a long story behind it which I will spare you all of. The short story is that every ornament has meaning and each is carefully placed. The setting is now in place and will remain like this until at least 3 Kingsโ€™s Day. Starting today until then if you want to find me I will be hanging out here in my quiet place.๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™ 11 more days until I begin the next chapter of my life. Thank God for this special place. Happy Monday Friends!! I hope everyone was able to start the week off on the right foot. I started slow. I hurt myself last night working on my tree. I am bruised and sore in too many places. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ I was worried last night how that would impact today and I honestly felt like crap this morning. I could have used it as an excuse to skip my workout today but instead I decided to use an extended warm up to see if hill repeats were possible. I love this hill. It works me hard! The body embraced the warm up so well that I got surprised 10 min into my hills when I started to struggle breathing- thank God for my inhaler! I got the breathing under control and finished a tough, cold, windy run. Hello Friends! I wanted to talk to you about something that all outdoor runners pay attention to - Dogs I briefly mentioned last week that I had an encounter with 3 unleashed dogs last week on my run. Everything turned out ok but I have never been so scared on a run before. Even thinking about it as I type makes me upset. I was running on mountain roads. I was facing traffic so I was on left side and the dogs were on the right side. They barked which alerted me and before I even realized it all 3 came running towards me in the street. I stopped turned so my front was away from them and lowered my body almost- cocoon like. 2 of the dogs stayed behind 1 dog, who got within a foot of me. I said repeatedly โ€œNoโ€ loudly and deep voice. I wanted to run but I knew that these dogs would chase. I stayed a statue like that and prayed. Each time the dog would try to come in I said โ€œNoโ€ I kept thinking where are these owners??? I kept doing this for what felt like forever and my prayers were answered- a distraction. A car drove down the road. Saw what was happening and helped me run out behind the car and away. I share this because I thought I was going to be mauled. Afterwards I looked up what you should do in this situation and I share so we can all learn. 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs in the United States each year. Prevention is the key. 1๏ธโƒฃ Be aware of surroundings 2๏ธโƒฃ Avoid eye contact 3๏ธโƒฃ Do not run 4๏ธโƒฃStay calm 5๏ธโƒฃ use short, firm deep voice commands 6๏ธโƒฃ Distract the dog I hope no one ever has such an experience but I hope by sharing I can help others. Hello Friends! Ever feel like not doing a workout? I do sometimes. Today was one of those days. I woke up knowing I had a full day ahead-nonstop until 9pm with a small window for my planned workout. And... I was sore all over from yesterdayโ€™s workout. I walked downstairs to my trusty treadmill and kept thinking - How could I run intervals with arms and legs sore? Well... I got my planned workout in by going to by trusty toolbox. Many use a target race as their motivation- that is one tool in my toolbox. But when you donโ€™t have a race how do you find motivation? My answer- The 10 minute conversation. I tell my body to commit to a 10 minute warm up. After that it can become an easy 60 minute run or I continue with my planned workout depending on how I feel. Today all aches were gone after 10 minutes of running and I had a nice short interval workout. Happy Monday Everyone! I hope that everyone had a great holiday and avoided a case of the Mondays today ๐Ÿ˜Š I planned to start the week off right by ensuring that I got 2 workouts in today. 2 workouts meant being at @crossfitsyracuse and complementing that WOD with an easy 60 minute runโœ… Todayโ€™s CrossFit WOD was a 20 minute AMRAP. I managed to get 5 rounds completed which totally amazed me. I had zero faith in that outcome as I was trying to figure out what adjustments would be half way through. My weakness was the push press. WOD 15 ring PU - my scale 10 push press 55# 15 front squat 55# Overhead at that weight, that many reps and no neck pain- that is progress! Happy Tuesday Everyone! I donโ€™t know about you but my day started early. I had to work today, lots of stuff around the house and I was dying for a long run. I was so stressed about today that I struggled to sleep well. Something is up if I donโ€™t sleep well because I have a history of sleeping through everythingโ€” kids crying, house getting broken into... true story. ๐Ÿ˜Š I guess all the energy I spend during my awake hours have me completely dead to the world during my sleep hours. But last night I was so worried about everything I may be forgetting that I slept poorly ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜ด I was stressed this morning but I sure felt less stressed after my run. Iโ€™m glad I took the time to fit it in. I know my body. I can handle just about anything with 7-8 hours sleep and a daily run. Not sure if a daily run is possible the rest of the week but I will give it a try. The stress of the holidays can really be frustrating and exhausting. The kids can be so frustrating that they could drive a parent to drink. And donโ€™t get me started on the stress of visiting with family. But I know I am so blessed. Iโ€™m glad I have running to relieve some of that stress to help ensure I maintain perspective. During my run today I focused on all my blessings. I want all of you to know that I am also thankful that many of you have joined me on this crazy but beautiful journey I am on. Many of you I have not met personally but have brought so much positive to my life. Happy Monday Everyone!! I have a short work week but lots of traveling to visit with family. That meant no matter what I was going to find a way to get 2 workouts in today. So happy to get a CrossFit workout in at @crossfitsyracuse and an easy 60 minute run. Todayโ€™s WOD for me was just about getting work in and I really enjoyed seeing everyone after being gone for some time. Happy Saturday Friends. So many thoughts about todayโ€™s The Climb race up Syracuseโ€™s State Tower to raise money and awareness for Pediatric Cancer. The climb took me 4 minutes but the event continues to flood my heart and mind. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿงก Be the change you wish to see. This non profit and this event started with a family with a vision- to ensure no child feels alone in their fight against cancer. That vision of a few has multiplied and impacted so many individuals. They are inspirational and I am so happy to participate in making that vision a reality. The opening ceremony had me in tears. Happy Wednesday Everyone!! I hope you all are having a great week. My week has been great but it is going fast. Today I didnโ€™t even realize it was Wednesday and it wasnโ€™t until late afternoon that I decided to drink water ๐Ÿ’ง Today I ran for 60 minutes and I finished 200 Kettlebell swings with no neck issues ๐Ÿ˜Š and I thought... wow this is great. I spent a couple days taking care of the body and I could do this workout with no neck issues- a huge win.๐Ÿ˜Šโœ…๐Ÿ’ช Saturday I am climbing to support and spread awareness about Pediatric Oncology. Anyone who knows me knows that eradicating cancer is a passion of mine. Happy Veterans Day!! I have a love - hate relationship with the #syracusehalfmarathon but it never disappoints. ๐Ÿ˜€ Today was typical weather for this race... snow. Surprisingly I was never cold. ๐Ÿ‘ The battle today was not the distance, the hills or the cold. Rather, I experienced an internal battle between my upper body (neck) and my lower body (legs). My legs really wanted to race and the neck really wanted me to slow it down. I decided to take turns listening to both. The result was a great time and overall great experience. I started the race in prayer and I ended with a prayer. So thankful to be able to continue to do what I enjoy. The finish time is a bonus the real win is having the courage to start and see it through to the finish.๐Ÿ™ Thank you to my friends. You are amazing cheerleaders and I am so fortunate to have you in my corner. Thank you to the volunteers and police as you all allowed us to safely enjoy this experience. Hello Friends! I hope you are doing well. I am very blessed but if Iโ€™m open with you all, Iโ€™ve been in pain. I have a herniated disc in my neck that I work hard to make sure is not an excuse. I went a year with no feeling in my arm while training for Boston and Syracuse Half Ironman. #truth I learned quickly to ignore pain and discomfort. After PT I learned how to maintain a steady state. So why have I been in pain? Because day to day stress combined with knowing soon I will be laid off from work has caused me to not take care of myself. Add a trip to the ER for my son and the result was me not functional on Monday. #truestory Yesterday it wasnโ€™t getting better so today I had a medical massage. #selfcare I can actually move my neck without pain !! #gratitude Why am I telling you this? I guess so you all know Iโ€™m human. My greatest weakness is that I care for everyone else before myself. Iโ€™ve continued to run so I definitely donโ€™t use it as an excuse but Iโ€™ve been miserable.
